Following potential 2015 draftees

Looney talked about how cool it was to meet Jerry Sloan, somehow I doubt he was the one who interviewed poorly.

It was probably one of the PG's saying he doesn't want to play behind Exum/Burke.

In the article it said they interviewed the froncourt guys, but not any of the point guards other than Grant.

I agree... Most likely candidates to me are Wood, and McCullough... Just don't know much about those guys, but the others seem a little more polished I guess.

Nearly positive we interviewed Cameron Payne, or maybe it was just a report saying we were going to bring him in for a workout.

Looney just doesn't seem like a guy who would interview poorly. Seems like he knows his role and knows his strengths.

Also could have been Chris McCullough. His negatives are body language and effort.

Looks like Chad Ford no longer has us picking Looney at #12. Lyles is there now, with the Jazz passing on Looney, Kaminsky, Oubre. Looney and Oubre are out of the lottery altogether.

Tony Jones reported over the weekend that there was one interviewee with the Jazz at the Combine that did poorly. Wonder if it was Looney and Ford got wind of that. Otherwise, it's hard to imagine why Looney might be dropping because of the Combine. The only thing he did was get measured. And he measured 1/2" more on wingspan and standing reach than he had before. Maybe Ford is just joining everyone else finally in being more pessimistic about Looney.

It is an interesting theory. I think maybe Ford is just starting to cool off of Looney and look at what he really did this year. I like him better than Trey, although Trey might be undervalued... it is hard to evaluate the UK guys with the limited roles those players had... also they had to play with the Harrisons (would hurt any player's effectiveness)

Can the NBA fine potential draftees for interview flopping? Look, if one of these guys says, "I heard Utah has mountains, but the streets are dirtier than OKC. I don't want to live there for 7 years, so I'm going to tell the Jazz I have 3 baby mommas, a handler, a habit and I like pro wrestling." Isn't that a flop?

oh, and link???

The Tony Jones report seemed to imply that the bad interview was unexpectedly bad. It sounds like the Jazz were surprised. So it may be hard to predict who it was based on players' prior repuations.

link?

I looked for the tweet and couldn't find it.

I thought I saw that too but no mention in the article... I think they are bringing Payne in for a workout. I really like him, but struggle to see the situation where that works roster wise.

I would like it if players did that personally... Helps you not waste time evaluating them. Unless they are a transcendent talent I wouldn't even be bothered by it.

I thought they interviewed Payne and were bringing him in for a workout.

Somebody interviewed unexpectedly bad? Then Ford drops Oubre out of the lottery, Locke puts out a video cool on Oubre. Meanwhile Jazz interview Payne, Jazz are having Payne in for a workout and Payne appears in the Ford Mock.

Tony said McCullough is coming in to be tested... I assume it wasn't him. I have narrowed it down to Christian Wood.

I should have read the articel before I speculated....

"Everything has gone well," said Walt Perrin, Jazz vice president of player personnel. "It's given us the ability to sit down and talk to kids and ask questions. A couple of guys impressed us. Some of the guys we spoke to handled the process better than we thought they would. Another didn't handle it as well as we thought.".......continued..

"The Jazz have interest in a few prospects that they didn't get an opportunity to speak to. Those include Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker. Murray State guard Cameron Payne is another one, as is Kelly Oubre from Kansas, Kentucky's Devin Booker and Utah guard Delon Wright."

Well Looney thinks their interview went well

"I thought the Jazz meeting went well," Looney said. "I walked in the room and I got to shake hands with Jerry Sloan. I mean, I grew up watching him on television. They have a really good, young team."

Doesn't say poorly, just said didn't handle as well as we thought.

didn't mention a specific interview per se, but that someone didn't handle the process the way they thought. I wonder if someone denied them the opportunity to talk.

I doubt it was Grant or Looney though as both gave comments in the article.

I perhaps read a bit more into the quotation than is literally there, but since the whole point of the two paragraphs leading into that statement was about interviews, I think it's pretty good odds that the reference was to an interview. But it's possible there are other interpretations, as you say.

I also think it isn't mutually exclusive for the Jazz to have been disappointed by a Looney interview and for Looney to have given a nice quote to Tony Jones about meeting Jerry Sloan. Being disappointed with the interview is not necessarily a result of a poor attitude toward the team.

(Just so I'm not misunderstood, I'm not saying that the odds of Looney being a poor interview was high, just that I don't discount it as a possibility, and it would at least be consistent with his drop on Ford's board -- since it was the Jazz who had previously been his destination in Ford's mind.)

Based on his 1280 interview today, it sounds like Locke likes Looney and is real high on Lyles. Hes the media arm of the Jazz so if Looney didnt do well then i would think Locke would parrot that. Maybe not.
