Following potential 2015 draftees

So Wade is asking for 20 million a year from the Heat. It looks like they'll let him walk and will be targeting a wing for sure. Either Johnson or Oubre.
Luckily Jazzfanz are smart and voted Oubre to the Heat in the poll.

It's crazy how many mocks have WCS going before Mario and Mudiay. That's hilarious. There is no way I would take WCS over those guys. Let alone even in the top 10.

WCS does not impress me.

There always seems to be one guy in the top 10 where I'm like, "him"? WCS is the 2015 version.

If the Jazz draft Portis at 12, I'd say there's a 40% chance they're trading him to Detroit with another asset for the #8 pick.

Portis just feels like a Detroit Pistons kind of player, and he's working out for them.

A benefit from trading Burks to move up and grab Mario is that we reset the clock on retaining the rights to an asset, and he's cheaper.

That's besides the idea that Mario could be a lot better than Burks.

I honestly don't know what to think about Burks. I use to be a huge fan, and was always defending him. But over time he hasn't really grown and improved. He's pretty much the same player. He's great at layups and that's about it. His shooting is eratic, and his defense is terrible. He seems like a guy who could be an all star. But maybe he just doesn't fulfill that potential. He has real concerning holes in his game. He still struggles with free throws for crying out loud.

He shot 44/38/82. He has greatly improved his shooting and had he been healthy he probably shoots 46% overall had he been his usual finishing self thanks to a bum shoulder before he shut it down. So 82% is struggling at ft's??

Elite defenders will always have an impact on the game. Gobert anyone? I can see WCS being a top 5 C. Also Chandler and Jordan come to mind. Many feel he was the missing piece that propelled them to winning a chip. Think WCS has potential as a future DPOY and can change a bad defensive team into an elite defensive team like what Gobert did for Utah once he started getting more minutes.

WCS (and Robert Upshaw to a degree) has the Gobert-factor working for him right now. Teams look at Gobert and Whitehead and see the impact that these young, defensive minded centers have on their team. They try to replicate that in the draft, but likely strike out. I like WCS a lot, but he's no Rudy Gobert. There's a good chance that Rudy gets him over drafted though.

The biggest difference between rudy and WCS other than Rudy being a demigod is drive to be great at basketball. WCS reminds me of AK... Likes basketball but don't think he'll live it. Won't be a bust but I think you'll always want a little more.

I think that's been the knock on WCS...does he WANT to be great?
I don't care if Gobert hits 9 15-ft jumpers in a row or if Locke says he went 4-10. The point is, he's working on his weakness. Rudy is HUNGRY! And when others see Rudy working to get better, they will too. It's contagious; it's a macho thing. Rudy is driving Favors; he's driving Hayward and Burks and Exum.

And I agree. WCS would be the BPA available at #12 if he were to drop (but he won't). As others have pointed out, Gobert and Whiteside have brought back the notion that a good defensive center goes a long ways to making you a good team.

If WCS fell to 12 I would feel great about taking him and being a lock down defensive team for 48 minutes a night.

I wouldn't pass him up. . . but I wouldn't take him over guys like Mario Hezonja, Stanley Johnson and Myles Turner - who I think are better fits for the team.

Johnson falling to us is probably the best outcome we can hope for.

I still think Stanley Johnson is a match on several fronts with this roster(which is something I posted before the season started). His raw power could establish itself as a change of pace/new dimension for the team. The FO will take a liking to his competitiveness and overall attitude. he fits next to Hood, Hayward or Burks on the wing seamlessly. I do think there's an increasing chance he falls to 12 too, which is a jackpot scenario.

I buy a bit of the Ron Artest comparison, he's not as tenacious defensively, but he will be stronger than most every matchup. I think there's some parallels with Wes Matthews' and Jimmy Butler's skillsets, but he's more dynamic and more advanced at an earlier age than most comparisons you could find.

Despite being one of the youngest in this class, hes very 'NBA ready', which has gotta be appealing to the Jazz.. He figures to be the type who just needs to make incremental improvements over the years to be a success. I was under the impression he was a bit taller, its no dealbreaker though. He shot well from 3 which is much more important and he's still a freight train in transition. overall a safe bet.

I hate when people look at someone they don't know personally and say he doesn't have a desire or whatever. But I'd compare him to Jordan not Gobert.

Stanley Johnson is the guy that I think I'm most hopeful for Utah for a lot of reasons.

#1. I think that he has a world of potential on both ends of the floor. I can easily see him becoming that dynamic Kawhi Leonard/Jimmy Butler type of player if he reaches his potential. He's one of the few Freshmen that I think is being underrated and overlooked.

#2. I like his character. He seems to be an intelligent, well spoken, good nature, hard working kid. I think that his attitude and work ethic will fit in perfectly with the culture that the Jazz are developing under Quin Snyder.

#3. His style of play will fit well with the other players. I think that he can play next to any of Hayward, Burks or Hood and do different things depending on who he's on the floor with. Especially on defense. Despite being one of the younger players in the draft, he has an NBA ready body right now. I'd love to see what a defensive lineup of Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Johnson and Exum would look like.

#4. His potential to replace Hayward if needed. A decision will have to be made on Gordon in a year and a half (before the 2016/17 season trade deadline) and it helps if a team has as many options as possible. I don't think Hayward (or Favors) is going to leave, but it's best to not be caught unprepared.

#5. Of all the players that I think have legitimate star potential, I think that Stanley Johnson and/or Myles Turner are the two that will be the most affordable to acquire. I don't think either guy is going to fall to #12, and the less the Jazz have to pay to get their target - the better.
