Following potential 2015 draftees

"He's not as athletic as Damian Lillard, but he is a Damian Lillard-caliber," one NBA scout said. "He scores 20 points a night. The thing he does best is make his teammates better. He sees and completes passes that other guards can't imagine throwing."

Denver is not in bad shape. They could keep #7, dump Lawson, pick up another mid lottery pick(and some extras), move Wilson Chandler at the deadline then ride the rookies and Jusuf Nurkick to Lottery Land again next season. Not a bad 2 to 3 season flip.

They are at least three years out from being competitive. They need to cash in for some extra picks then suck, Unless you think you have a star there at #7, you blow the thing up and move for 2017 picks. You aren't going to build your franchise in this draft. Not from 7 on. That # 7 pick is far more valuable to a team that thinks it is going to turn a corner like Utah, Indiana, or Boston. You should be able to get those teams in a bidding war if you play your cards right. If I am Denver I offer to trade back four or five places but I demand a very lightly protected 2017 first for my trouble.

This is disconcerting. The only possible team that Denver could be dealing with here is the Celtics and their multiple draft picks. If Denver is holding a firesale, they are going to want lots and lots of picks. I can't see them parting with Lawson for the 18th pick, he still has more value than that. Celtics have no need of Lawson, but I can see them paying a big price to get WCS or Turner with Denver's pick. A nice rim protector would look good on that team and pair well with Olynyk (whom I hate.) I can see them taking on Faried as well as I think he would be far more effective playing in the East, much like Millsap is. . .

Why? That doesn't make sense. If Sactown offers their pick that's better than 2 late first rounders.

I think about that every time I see him on the court.

Let me rephrase.

It's way too early to allocate major resources to draft Burke's future replacement. If I'm the Jazz, I first try to trade up into the late 1st for a guy like Delon Wright (who has the defense and positional flexibility to be a great fit) or I try Alec Burks in Trey's role and see how he fits. The answer might already be on the roster.

Worst case scenario for me is that Trey sticks, and continues to struggle. In that case, the Jazz shop him at the deadline, move him for peanuts and either draft a replacement with the 2016 pick or find a guy through trade or free agency next offseason.

I'm totally okay trading Burke if they get a guy early that they covet (like moving up to 8 or 9) but I'm not completely sold that he can't get better and be a solid reserve this upcoming season. I've always been kind of meh on Burke. Delighted they have Exum.

This was probably mentioned but I'll post it anyways:

"A spate of teams picking before the Bucks have also worked out Portis, including Detroit (No. 8), Indiana (11), Utah (12), Phoenix (13), Oklahoma City (14), Atlanta (15) and Boston (16).

When I asked the personable Portis whether any team has given him a “promise’’ to select him, he smiled and said, “A couple of teams have. They told me I was their guy. Or that I’m definitely in their top two.

"I think they say that to everybody.’’"

If I'm the Jazz I wait until next year... if Burke keeps struggling and doesn't pan out, go for Kris Dunn or Jamal Murray next year or for a vet.

*Mock Draft Competition* Fantastic Prizes!(ok maybe not quite Fantastic or Prizes)

Payne is a good player, but there are interesting bigs in our range. Payne is benefitting a bit from the lack of PGs in the draft, imo. Looney is probably a better prospect overall.

I do think there is some small chance that Winslow would drop, but it's starting to sound like WCS would drop. If he really has red flags, then it also affects the NY situation.

Yeah, that's a bit concerning to me. If WCS drops, that means Turner will move up the boards because of it. Would we be okay with WCS at 12, even though of medical issues?

Because you would want assets in future drafts. You aren't going to rebuild with 3 draft choices in the current draft, you want multiple draft choices spread out over the next few years. When going young, you want several bites of the apple (multiple first round picks) so you can swing for the fences a little more instead of pinning all of your hopes on one choice a year. The three teams that can give you that are Utah, Philly, and Boston. Of the three, Boston has the most motivation.

Of course I am assuming that Denver's management is competent. They did sell us Gobert for 3 million dollars, sooooo. . .

Yeah, you take him even if you only plan to sell him. The worst case is that you get stuck with a third elite rim protector, limiting his minutes right off the bat shouldn't be an issue. His foot issue is not really comparable to Borchardt. . .

It depends on how serious the issues are. It seems strange that this would come out at the last minute, but I guess the same happened last year with Embiid.

If teams pass on WCS, then yes, it could mean they take Winslow or Turner instead.

It's interesting for the Knicks, since WCS was one of their trade-down targets. So I suppose it could open the opportunity for a team in our range to trade up to 4.

Interesting news tidbits...

-- Rockets pursuing Sergio Llull, would dampen their need for a PG in the mid-first.

-- Knicks floating rumor that they'd take Kaminsky at 4; playing cat-and-mouse with their trade-down partners. Like "screw you guys, we're prepared to go scorched earth."

Kaminsky appears to be a prime target for New York. Amazing they'd pass on Porzingis, Mudiay and Hezonja, if true. Phil Jackson sure loves them triangles.

-- Dario Saric won't come over to the Sixers this season. Seems like Sixers are starting from scratch again...

Knicks taking Kaminsky at 4 would be epic!!!! The Knick fans there would burn the joint down. Phil would get snooty and defensive. The drama would be better than any Knick game for the past decade. Please make this happen!!!!

They won't. The negotiations for #4 will come down to the final minutes. Several teams could be involved. Phoenix, Jazz, Nuggets, Celtics, etc.

Knicks should trade back to the 6 - 9 range to take Kaminsky. The Heat showing interest in Kaminsky could be a head-fake, but it adds pressure to the situation.

I just don't understand why if you're the Knicks you chase Kaminsky when you can just draft Porzingis. But I understand they're not a patient franchise.
