You're debating the meaning of the term "direct correlation" -- direct correlation vs. correlation. That's where you're misaligned.
 
And yes, I believe height to wingspan is a pretty strong linear correlation. I'm not 100% sure on the definition of "direct correlation", but I believe it's when the r value is high and approaching 1. So in this case, yes I think it is direct.

Cite examples then. you should be able to string them together quite easily if they all line up to your correlation
