What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

250 6'10" with 5% body fat. Freaky athletic and moving very well laterally. Very strong! He also has some rudimentary skill that can be developed. I think his skill level and BBIQ is much higher than players with similar profile that have entered the league before(Biyombo, Drummond, DeAndre Jordan). His knock is that he's not as long as them. But that's why I'm putting him at the end of the lottery and not earlier. His rebounding needs improvement too. I think in due time he will be able to credibly defend 1(maybe 2?)-through-5.

For me it's the size/power/quickness. Bam has quick hands, quick feet, and has an explosive first jump and second jump. His athleticism is going to give him an advantage on the boards and will enable him to get an advantage on defenders and draw fouls like he did in college. He's great running the floor, which puts constant pressure on defenders. He has a similar physical profile to Derrick Favors and has better shooting touch, tbh. He's just an alpha.

He's not a very good finisher for his size he shot 59.9% from the field in college. He's an undersized center essentially. Sure, he is athletic as hell and tested out well. We need a stretch-four and he is FAR from that.

60% from the field is not good in college? I don't care for needs and fits. 2-3 years into the future the roster turnover is about 75%. You cannot draft for needs when the needs change so much even in the mid-term, let alone in long term.

And yes, I think he can guard 2-5 now. Maybe with improvement he can guard 1s on switches adequately.

Bam put up 13/8/1.5blk with great efficiency as a 19 year-old freshman in the SEC. People will look at his film and say that all he does is dunk and finish at the rim, but all his life that's all he's needed to do. No one has held him off yet. He can hit 18-foot jumpers too, just hasn't been asked to shoot them.

I'd be very comfortable taking him in the teens of this draft. He's going to be a load in the paint.

Here's my big board post-combine with tiers:

* limited footage, mainly based on athletic/size potential.

My bias would be to move Zach Collins up a tier. I think he's more athletic and has more motor than people give him credit for. His shooting touch is very encouraging.

I'd drop Ike Anigbogu a tier, and might move Wilson and Jarrett Allen up one tier.

But that's just me.

He also bullies opponents in the post. There have been mulptiple instances where he catches the ball 10-12 feet away from the basket and puts the defender under the rim to dunk it. If it was this easy, everybody would be doing it. I can't believe the narratives going on around Bam - that he underperformed. I would say he performed great. I didn't expect him to be this productive this quickly. In the beginning of the season I said here that people will underestimate him because his numbers will probably suffer because of the ball-dominant guards he's playing with, but he somehow still managed to put good numbers and people are still underestimating him. I don't know why. He also has much better touch than most bigs of his kind(the FT% is a good indicator for that, too).

I think it has more to do with how the league is trending than how he performed. Some of these one dimensional guys just can't play in the playoffs. If we took Bam with the 24 or 30 I'd be happy.

Nice draft board btw... My only thing is I think OG will be great and I'd move him up. He's tailor made for the small ball athletic 4 role. If he gets a consistent jumper he will be great. I watched a DX video on him so I'm pretty much an expert.

You guys make some valid points, admittedly. I just don't see the fit for our team at this moment.

It would be a bit odd... I think Bolomboy is our backup 5 next year... have high hopes but I'm likely assuming too much.

He's a 3 and D prospect with pretty questionable 3. If he improves it, he can be one of the premier defenders in the league + be OK on offense. The only question is how much you trust his shooting... he was 31% from 3 this year... and what's even more worrying his FT% was 56%. This does not bode well for his projection as a shooter in the league.

+ he had an ACL tear, which as an injury is not as serious as it once was, but it's not nothing.

No position in the league is changing as much as PF. The ideal PF now is someone who shoots 3s to space the floor, can handle the ball at the top of the key, can run 4/5 pick-and-roll, can defend switches on the perimeter, can punish defenders in the post, can rebound, help rim protect, etc. Teams ask them to do everything.

It's very difficult to find a guy who does all these things and does them well. You'd need a super talented player (e.g., Ben Simmons, Giannis) to do it.

Bam is a bit of a throwback. He's more the Andre Drummond type of power player. He may not fit our team perfectly, but he'd still be difficult to pass on. He'll check some of those boxes and not others. The question is whether he can develop his game somewhat the way Blake Griffin did. He has that athleticism.

The shooting is a bigger question than the injury to me and I agree the ft shooting is troubling. I've heard good things about his attitude and just think he could be a Kwahi type.

Also, I think his finishing ability is going to be elite. Shot like 70% from the field. I just think in the 10-14 range he's a guy who could be a home run in the Kwahi, Giannis type mold. His game doesn't necessarily compare to those two now, but just in the fact that he has the right body, attitude, and has some things he can do that are elite already. I think he's got a good floor as well... a Mbah a Moute type with more athleticism.

Finding the guy that fits that role seems to open up so much for teams.

Earlier in the year, I liked OG more than Tatum....then Tatum started playing much better and OG got injured. I agree he could be really good. My question was whether he was assertive enough.

I think he is a similar level prospect (but different) as Jackson and Tatum. I think his demeanor is similar to Kawhi and he is by all accounts a worker. I like the value at 14ish and if the price was right I'd love for us to move up with him as the target.

I don't know on the assertiveness. He likes to dunk on people's faces, which is assertive.

I didn't watch enough to be super opinionated. Would just love the value and fit where he is currently projected.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind taking a shot at him with any of our picks. The potential is really tantalizing. I wouldn't mind any of the players in that tier.

For sure... I think there are 5 or so guys in this draft that are good candidates to be the "how the hell did we miss on this guy" person. OG, Bam, Smith, Patton, Giles are all candidates imo.

I am looking at the Charlotte bobcats as a potential trade partner. Looking at their roster for next year and they don't have a lot of holes

PG - Walker and they own a team option for sessions at $6.2 mil
SG - the have Batum locked up long term with Lamb (playing ok) and Belinelli
SF - MKG and then Batum (this is one need is some depth here
PF - Marvin Williams (one of my favorite previous jazz men)christian Wood (here they need help) Zeller can play here too
C - Zeller, kamisky and Miles Plumlee

They have $103 million in salary next season if they pick up their team options on Johnny Obryant and Briante weber

Their bad contract is Miles Plumlee with 3 more years at 37 million

So I would offer a package that could include Lyles, Neto, Hood (Mack and Diaw could be used to because they have team options) and or picks #24 #30 (not all but a package. Jazz could take PLumlee back (I think he would be a decent back up to gobert)

For the #11 pick. I think this is how the Jazz would draft Zach Collins.

*This is just one idea and i came up with it quickly

I wouldn't touch Plumlee and his contract. If we took that deal on to draft Collins (a backup center for us) I think I'd drive to SLC and slap DL... no explanation just a slap in the face and walk away...

Actually I see Collins playing PF for the jazz.

I am trying to figure out what they interviewed him at the combine when most teams have Collins early teens.
