What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

I see exactly what Cy is seeing with Kuzma. The problem is that the idea of him right now is much better than the reality of him. He does some things that players in the top 10 can't do. His movement is incredibly smooth for his size. His shot is quick and comes out of his hand seamlessly... it looks like it should be going in. He seems to have good feel and good passing and can even playmake a bit.

The problem is... we've seen this before, haven't we? Smooth, but not explosive athlete, whose shot looks good but doesn't fall, and is bad on D? I'm not sure how much I believe in the good-looking shot to become a good shot. Just like with Lyles, his whole game depends on it. If he can't hit it, he's out of the rotation very quickly.

I think he has more game than Lyles. Lyles problem was he was forced to play out of position in college then in the NBA he has been forced to be a stretch 4 despite never being a 3pt shooter previously. Like I pointed out earlier, he is a better per minute rebounder than Bam Adebayo. I think Kuzma is more than just a 3pt shooter.

He's been discussed around here before but the more I research different prospects the more I like Ojeleye

Kuzma isn't a 3pt shooter though that's the problem. I don't know where people are getting that. Yeah, he shot 4-5 from three at the combine but what about 32.1% in college for his career?

I'd be nervous about Kuzma. He's an ok athlete and a pretty gifted offensive player. But he gives off a bad vibe to me. Sort of like kanter or maybe even Burks. He doesn't seem to have the intangibles of attitude that I think fits.

And yes, his long ball shooting sucks.

I'd be very nervous in taking him.

I'd be fine with taking him at 42 for sure. Possibly at 30.

People are talking 24 and maybe having to trade up for him. The hype is crazy after a combine scrimmage.

I do feel he's a better fit for the NBA then college ball. I think his last year at Utah was the first year he was the focus of the offense. We all witnessed how tough it was for Hayward when he first became the #1 option in the jazz's offense. I'm not saying he will improve from distance but he has the feel of a guy who should improve from 3.

Risky risky. Weren't we all saying the same about Trey? And honestly, isn't Lyles the better athlete? I'm just not a big believer in Kuzma.

I'd rather roll the dice on a better athlete or on foreign talent. Granted, 2nd round picks are mostly long shot Hail Marys anyway.

What do you think of Derrick White? Could be a nice athletic combo guard who could come off the bench and provide some speed and scoring.

Look at DX's mockdraft. No way all those centers are getting taken that early and that many at a time. Dudes are going to move way up. Kuzma is going to be one of them. First round lock

Just barely starting to look at the draft this year and out of the gate I'm liking Lydon for our late 1st round range. Kuzma is intriguing as well but I cant see the hype around TJ Leaf.

Collection of random thoughts. Good day.

here's all you need to know about why there is hype around Leaf. As a true freshman, his PER was 27 and he had a TS% of 66%. Both numbers are elite. He's 6'10" and is a plus athlete. much better player as a freshman than Lyles was coming out of UK.

haven said that, like any other prospect you can poke holes in him (short WS, can he play the 3, defense, FT shooting, etc), but if you don't see the hype, look no further than his production as a true frosh.

He has a slow, funky release.

The more I look at this draft, the more I hate DL's lottery selections in the past. The prospects we are looking at right now at 24, 30, or even in the second round seem to have much more talent than the likes of Trey Burke, Trey Lyles or even Dante......

DL picked Lyles because they liked his unique skill set, and stretch four "don't grow on trees". Now here we are, Leaf, Kuzma, Lydon, Rabb, or even Swanigan, Semi, Wilson, all legitimate stretch four potentials and better shooters than Lyles in college. So they do grow on trees.

They drafted Lyles more for his playmaking than for his shooting.

That's just called hind sight. Let me remind you how good Burke was in college, and he did this as a sophomore.

ATLANTA -- The trophy case has spoken.

Trey Burke's the national player of the year, and it's not even close.

The Michigan sophomore point guard was given the 2013 Naismith Trophy on Sunday at the 2013 National Association of Basketball Coaches Award Show in Atlanta.

Burke has now won every major national player of the year award this season, earning The Associated Press Player of the Year, the Wooden Award, the Oscar Robertson Trophy and the Naismith Trophy.

He was also named the NABC Division I Player of the Year on Sunday night.

Trey Burke was the #1 consensus PG of that draft. He wasn't considered a reach at #9. ESPN praised the pick. Meanwhile, CJ McCollum was out with a broken foot.
