When I was watching UCONN/FLA I didn't think McNeeley was looking very good, but he ends up with a great stat line for a Freshman in the tourney 22pts, 3ast, 2stls. Any other thoughts on him? I'm having a hard time placing him.
Seems like a well rounded, jack of all trades kind of player....but maybe in a bad way. Everything seems a little theoretical with him. His 3 point shooting percentage is poor, but he does have good volume and high FT% so I believe he can shoot or will be able to. I think he looks like a good athlete, but he's really awful at the rim and also has extremely low stocks numbers...that worries me. Defensively I hear a lot of great things and his numbers are a mixed bag. Stocks/DBPM he looks terrible, but his +/- stuff is actually quite good on that end so I'm willing to trust the eye test. It's a really mixed bag for him and I don't he really stands out in any way. Having said that, I do like that he finds the efficient areas to score even if he's not super efficient himself. His rim rate, 3 point rate, and free throw rate are all good. I also think he's a great competitor and does hustle which is reflected in his strong rebounding numbers.
I think he could end up like a poor man's Deandre Hunter or Keegan Murray, but a poor man's version of those guys might just be a very nice Euroleague player.
