Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Yeah, I think we are getting a coveted player in this draft no matter what. I also think there is a non-zero chance that the Hornets like Kon and would trade back.

The 76ers are not going to know whether or not Embiid can play basketball at a high level again probably for like 3-4 months so I don't know if they can commit to anything right now.
Doesn't really matter all that much. You can do the deal later if they are really waiting on that.

I just think Philly is going to want to push some chips in to give Embiid a chance to win it all.

Absolutely, and I have no doubt that Tre will do those things in the NBA.

He couldn't beat accountants and car salesman off the dribble in college to get to the rim, it's possible he develops that in the NBA, but it's tough to see. He's been a high level prospect for his entire life and has a very polished game that he's worked on a lot, he just has no shake.

He played SEC basketball, not DII.

It's massively more fraught to agree on a deal in June that you won't execute until September (and may not execute at all) when the deal is dependent upon a draft pick (as the 76ers and Jazz may have very different opinions about who should be picked #3)

They aren't going to punt on Fox. They are in win now mode. They just have to determine how quickly Harper can get ready and if it's better to trade him or Castle to bring in a high level piece that fits around Fox/Wemby.

If they trade Fox and go with Harper/Castle/Youth, they are looking at least two years before they are a contender and wasting all of Wemby cheap years on developing other players (and there's never a guarantee that those players develop well enough)

I hope you are right. All the more reason for them to shed the pick.

Well then Philly has to decide how much they want to risk. Either way it's a possibility.

I think they probably try to trade Castle and future picks for Lauri and keep Harper and that would be the bartering point.

The sheer belief you have in Lauri's current trade market is odd. The Kings refused to trade a very mediocre prospect in Keegan Murray for Lauri last offseason and instead offered four firsts. Since the Jazz turned down that offer, Lauri has signed a max contract and had a really bad season.

He clearly has less value than Pascal Siakam had when Siakam was traded to Indiana as Siakam

1. Was just as good as Lauri
2. Had less injury history than Lauri
3. Had a proven record as a winner (he's a champion with lots of playoff experience, Lauri has never made the postseason)

Here's what Siakam got

Two likely bad but lightly protected firsts (2024 and 2026 from Indiana)
One very bad first (the late first that Toronto then traded to Utah for Olynyk and Agbaji)
Bruce Brown's contract

This is basically the ceiling of what we should expect if we trade Lauri and it's likely to be less than this.

Examples of this happening don't really exist. There are some players who have done more of this in the pros, but it's usually because they had a role that was more limited in college like a Booker situation. There are some Tre-Book similarities which I think make sense, but I think Book's development had more to do with him being limited at Kentucky.

To be fair, if you're looking for a star at #5 it requires something extraordinary to happen....so no bet is good. Right now I'd probably bet on Kas or Kon's potential to scale up instead. Fears probably has the clearest path to get there, but for some reason I'm just less convinced by him.

If I'm following these combine measurements correctly, Tre and VJ have very similar athletic testing numbers? I would have never guessed that from the film. I never would have called Tre a bad athlete, but not in the same tier as VJ, hmmm.
