Free Agent Rumors Thread

Someone smarter than me (not hard btw) on Twitter had mentioned this. Either pelton or coon... Woj also tweeted that they need to clear the decks of everyone except their main guys.
I just did a reproject and edited my post. They only need to make a few more minor tweaks beyond getting rid of Lin, renouncing their exceptions and releasing their non-guaranteed players. Easiest moves would be to trade three of the following: Hamilton, Jones, Daniels or Motiejunas (or even Capela).

Jazz could definitely step in and offer a 2nd for three of Jones, two of the others and a future 1st. TO me, that sounds like a fair price for a salary dump. Morey HAS to make the move and he has to deal with Philly or LA to get them to take Lin. He's under the gun so it's a buyer's market. Heck, I might go for broke and ask for Jones, Daniels and Capela in exchange for a 2nd round pick.

I think they have to do more than that but I appreciate that you did the math. I read somewhere that they may not get there even if they got rid of everything that isn't harden or Howard so bosh won't get full max but close.

They also have a cap hold with Capella until like September ... Not sure if you included that.

Missed Capela. And I incorrectly added some cap holds for players that they can renounce (Hamilton, Daniels)
Here's a better worksheet.
Howard
Harden
Parsons
Jones
Motiejunas
Caanan
Capela
Bosh
4 at minimum
12 player total

$ 21,436,271

$ 14,728,844

$ 964,750

$ 1,618,680

$ 1,483,920

$ 816,482

$ 991,000

$ 20,500,000

$ 2,028,000

$ 64,567,947

As mentioned, all exceptions, QO's (except for Parsons) and non-guaranteed contracts are renounced (which includes Beverly).

Only twelve players are counted in terms of being under/over the cap. With the cap at $63.1M, they'd have to clear $2M more (because they have to replace a traded player with another mimimum cap hold of $500K). If I were Utah, I'd ask for Jones and Canaan (filler) or Capela and Motiejunas in exchange for a 2nd-round pick. Capela is 1st round value and Jones is a plug and play veteran. Either deal works for me if I'm Dennis Lindsey.

Parsons, of course, is then retained and adds $13M to their salary total. But, since they've traded away $2-$3M in salaries, they're under the luxury tax. Morey is no dummy; he knew what the numbers were before telling Bosh he could get the max. Now it comes down to finding a taker for Lin. Not a huge cap hit, but that poison pill they put in the contract requires a big cash outlay.
Actually, Utah could take on that deal and it would help them get to the payroll floor which is calculated as actual payroll and not salary cap. However, I doubt they want to throw another PG In the mix. It would upset what they're creating with Burke and Exum.

Good work... Tried to rep...

Parsons cap hold is 1.4... Anyway this crap is complex but they have some work to do.

So matching them will put them into luxury tax land, right? That makes Parsons even more expensive.

I thought his QO was only $964K. In either case, they get to the target by dealing Jones/Canaan or Motiejunas/Capela.
And no, matching Parsons and offering Bosh $20.5M doesn't put them into the tax. As shown, they FIRST have to clear $2M to offer Bosh his deal. If they can't do a second minor trade (outside of the Lin deal), they'd have to reduce Bosh's first year by $1.5M.

I read the cap hold somewhere it's .5 M diff so not a big deal. You were doing a good job and I just wanted to help where I could.

Just curious... Would you do jones and Capella for the GSW pick in 2017?

I'm expecting them to dump Jones and Motiejunas to clear that $2 million in space, but keep Beverley. They won't get someone of his caliber for his salary. Houston has some maneuvers to make.

I'm wondering if Chicago has the stones to go after Melo. With LeBron going back to Cleveland, possibly Bosh and Parsons to Houston, the last big piece would be Carmello Anthony. I don't think he really wants to go to the Lakers. That leaves the Bulls and Knicks. Jazz could get into the mix by trading for pieces to facilitate. Taj Gibson or the rights to Nikola Mirotic would be a really nice pickup for renting cap space.

Yes, keeping Beverrly - if possible - for $1M is a bargain. Which is another reason we should swoop in to get at least Jones. I'd prefer another asset too, but there are likely other buyers who wouldn't mind Jones and a filler like Canaan for nothing.

I see. Looks like they'd be just under the luxury threshold. Good maneuvering to have 4 players right near the max. A lot to sacrifice to make it work though. Essentially to keep Parsons they are paying him right at the max and giving other players and picks away.

If we can get mirotic for a salary dump, DL is my hero.

Could the Jazz do a sign and trade with Bosh/Carmelo to Houston/Chicago?

Jazz sign Bosh, trade him to Houston for Lin, Jones, Beverly, whatever, then match on Hayward.

S&T isn't needed, but Lin has already been dealt to the Lakers.
Could still do some kind of a deal for Jones, Beverly or whatever. Not sure of that third choice, though. Is he a 3 and D player?

When is last time athlete said, "Hey, Cleveland, I CHOOSE you." Not drafted, not traded, not worn down and desperate. LeBron wanted Cavs.

Sigh.
