Game #22 Jazz at Clippers. 11/30/17 8:30 Mtn

SG 36 9-16 5-10 1-1 0 0 0 6 1 0 2 2 +13 24

Ho-hum, another 24pt. game from Donovan on efficient shooting with magical passing and only two TO's.

I do think we should move JJ and Favs... not like we have to but I think the rotation going to get messy when they are back.

I think we can kick the tires on who might be willing to come here while negotiating with Exum. If someone is willing to sign we could either get Ex to agree to something underneath his cap hold or waive it. If we could offload AB without attaching an asset I’d do it but if we really got desperate we could waive and stretch his salary to clear more space.

I honestly would like to make DM the primary ball handler and move Rubio... I think he’s just too hard to fit and I’m not sure he’d stay engaged as a backup. Don’t have all the answers but if we find a FA willing to sign we can get to the number we need. I don’t really see a whole lot of good options out there for us.
Agree 100%.
1. Favs and JJ should be moved before the deadline. They aren't part of the plans going forward. Jerebko and Thabo can hold down the fort at the 4 for the rest of the season.
2. No reason to do anything with Exum and/or Hood until they get offers or we need cap space.
3. Burks is a tricky situation. Having him would be important if Hood gets an offer Jazz don't want to match. Burks could slide into the backup role Hood now has. But I don't see him as an optimal piece going forward. So if a deal is there to get rid of his salary, DL should jump on it.

Yeah, I don't think we HAVE to move anyone. Thanks to Haywood, we avoided the Luxury Tax this year so we have 3 years starting next we can be over the tax. It will be better to have assets than capspace if you are the Jazz in the coming years, especially as the NBA economy cools considerably. It would cost considerably more money to get Favors like talent on the open market than just keeping Favors, and Burks, and Exum. Favors and Burks are trending upward, value wise. No reason to sell now.
3 out of 4 makes you a repeat offender, doesn't it? Glad you feel the Jazz are happy to be tax payers. IMO, The ONLY way they do it is if the Jazz are contending, which they aren't. Or, if they have to be in the tax during a transition year, like when they matched for Millsap while still having Boozer. There's no doubt in my mind DL would have immediately tried to offload some salary had Hayward re-signed, likely putting JJ and Burks on the market.

I think you trade Favors and JJ if you’re actually getting something. If we move then just to get something, then I think it’s a mistake, even if they leave for “nothing.” If it’s between making a bit of noise in the playoffs and getting Rudy (who really missed our playoffs last year) and Donovan that experience, then I believe that’s better than a second round pick. I know, I know — Ginobili, Millsap, and Jokic were all second round picks. But so we’re Kaniel Dickens, Loren Woods, and even Al Franken.

Ok but what If we trade them and get SOMETHING?

Is Boler to blame for AB not reaching his potential all these years? I think so.

You're leaving out that Favors and Gobert sharing the court makes the Jazz significantly worse.

The good part is that Burks is upping his value with these games. Sure there have been stinkers but these big scoring outbursts will entice other teams.
Some will view him as a weapon they can better utilize. Whatever the case he is talented, but very inconsistent. And lets not forget his health issues.

It was good to see Mitchell getting the water bottle dumped on his head during the post game interview, in stride. Shows he can take what he dishes out, and that he can lead not only on the court, but in the locker room as well.

I agree, and I don't think they will trade them away for little unless perhaps either were to ask.

Burks looked great. If he can shoot like that consistently, he can become that bench spark plug we’ve been expecting since before he got hurt. If he raises his value to the point that a real asset comes back. . . I’d probably pull the trigger. But at the very least, it’s nice to see him contributing again. Love that he’s playing within the system. That alone will be a big boost for his production.

That was a fun game to watch in person. There's always drama at Clippers games. Shortly after Rivers flopped after shooting a jumper two guys sitting court side must have said something to him because they started exchanging words. It lasted at least ten seconds DJ had to walk Rivers back to the sideline. It was amusing.

Favors played really well. They didn't box him out and they paid for it. I didn't see who got him in the throat but he shook it off and played well. On several occasions I noticed his teammates don't do a good job of getting him the ball in the paint.

Jerebko played well too. He shot one three from his chest after mishandling the ball and it somehow went in. And on several occasions he was WIDE OPEN whether during the break or while the Jazz were running the offense and they didn't pass him the ball. Harrell abused him on a few plays but when Jonas did pester him a few plays and caused a turnover.

Ingles was fun to watch. He was mostly active during the first half. The guy just works so hard on both offense and defense. I know Clippers fans were crying inside with every good play Ingles made.

Mitchell was amazing to watch. Before the second half he was shooting corner threes and talking with a court side fan. The guy wants to win so badly. He's an alpha. Watching him on defense is amazing and I can't believe he's a rookie. And he had two dunks that were absolutely insane.

Rubio got burned by Rivers way too many times and his turnover to Sam Dekker was an embarrassment. Yet he had some good moments - he scored 8 points - I think they were consecutive but if they weren't they occured in the span of under two minutes. I cringed every time he shot the ball - yet more often than not the shot went in.

Burks was fun to watch. Toward the beginning of the gave he inexplicably lose the ball out of bounds in classic Burks fashion and then he had the 4-point play and played with wreckless abandon - which seems to be the best way for him to play. He had some crazy shots that went in. And watching him dribble around is funny to watch because he's so athletic the Clippers scrambled to guard him.

Thabo was great. The guy has a super high basketball IQ. He rarely makes mistakes. All his shots seemed calculated and he didn't take one stupid shot.

Royce is interesting. Amazing defender - he stole a few passes. I know he missed a three but the shot looked good. And his other shoot was from an oop and it showed his athleticism. I feel like he was either told or plays in a way that is similar to Ingles last year - find the open man and play defense.

Watching Udoh run down the court is something you have to see in person. It's like he's wearing clown shoes. He had a few nice dunks though.

Bradley did well. His one shot was nervously attempted after a moment of hesitation. He did have a great pass to Udoh for an easy dunk.

Wolters had a shot where it went over the backboard. It was just bad. But his bounce pass to Bradley was nice.

The refs called the game amazingly well. If anything, they favored Utah slightly but as a whole it was very fair.

Jazz demeanor was really good throughout the game. I believe everyone has bought into the team. Despite Mitchell and Burks playing really well I'm still really impressed by Favors. He did a lot of dirty work and was always active. The Clippers definitely tried getting DJ the ball but Favors was always there and DJ ended up passing the ball instead of trying to bak Favors down.

Very nice game, I'm proud to be wearing some SMOOTH jazz gear at work today.

Maybe we play better as a team without Rodney. He's a scorer for sure but doesn't seem to make those around him better. WE'RE PLAYING WITH CHEMISTRY AND QUIN IS THE MAD SCIENTIST!
