What's new

Game #27 Utah Jazz at Jernigan Magic, 5 pm mtn

It always was in danger.
This team has too much talent to ever have a real shot at a top 5 pick.

It's just taking time to get chemistry and to get familiar with system. This team will be better at the end of the year than they are now and win alot of meaningless games that will piss us all off.

I see the jazz getting a pick between #9 and #13
The bench is still terrible, and the starters are young and inexperienced. I'm glad that they're winning some and building confidence, but those teams all had issues when the Jazz played them (no Bosh and the Magic suck). This team will win some games, but they're still going to lose some because they're not consistent enough to close the game out. If they do fall I to that 9-13 range, I certainly hope that they utilize some assets to try and get another potential star player to add to this young Core.

Or they can always get lucky and jump into the top 3. That's how they got Kanter. Can't count on it, but it sure would be nice to land a franchise guy.

By watching the games you can see a lot of improvements that the Jazz are making. You can't really group this all together and say they only won because bosh was out or the magic suck. These games were both on the road too. If the Jazz had kept under control in that pelicans game we would be on a 3 road win streak.

Don't give me that bro. We're now on a 4 game 'playing good basketball' streak. We were in the Wizards(2nd best team in the East) game as well as the Pelicans(>.500 team in the West) game. And both those games were w/o Derrick. The team is starting to gel, the players have fun and I think we're having fun too. I know I have. And once we get solid and consistent contributions from Dante and Rodney and Senior Burke decides to show up we're going to look even better. This team is growing up and the only thing that might stop that is a FO move.

What ever happens,

GO JAZZ!!!

Two smaller but telling things I liked from Hayward last night. While he wasnt shooting great he still took control at the end of the 3rd. We know how important it is to close Qts. In the final minute he has a great rebound over a taller player. The next play down he called for the ball, and drove into to draw the foul. This is what he wasnt doing last year. He took control, and willed us to victory.

BTW the last 4 games our DRtg is 106.2 over the season it is 109.3
The improvement doesn't look that big but me thinks we're figuring things out!

#improvement #babysteps

FYI Gordon has a slightly positiv NetRtg (0.2) as a starter(35 MIN) on a losing team(NetRtg: -5)

That is cray cray! That should not be and it shows how much of an impact he has!!! He is literally carrying the team on his back. I would love to see what he can do with better teammates.

Like what? Jazz are not tanking.

Of course they are not " tanking". Nobody is tanking, Philly is not tanking, jazz are not tanking, tanking is bad.

The Jazz are "not skipping steps".

While Philly is all about "trying to win with youth".

And when Joe Ingles plays major minutes without scoring it is about his passing ability.

And when the jazz trade Enes to Charlotte for a draft pick and Bismack Biyombo it will be about "acquiring Assets" not tanking.

I am like 99.9% sure that DL won't do such thing. And I don't mean Enes in particular, I mean a Philly like move just to make our team worse. I don't think thats how DL operates. At least I hope so.

Anyone who thinks this team is going to have a top 5 pick via tanking has no idea what they're talking about. We still play the Lakers and Tpups 4 times each. Those teams are disasters. The celtics, who just upgraded their tank by trading away Rondo. The nets. The Jabariless Bucks. And of course, the Sixers. We shouldn't lose to any of those teams. They're awful.

Realistically, we should be drafting 9-13. That's about where we are in the league.

Some more informtions:

Alec's 3P% is .393 on 2.4 attempts. He is .444 on catch and shoot threes. Let is fly Alec. He has that shot!
His AST Ratio(17.1) and his AST/TO Ratio(1.54) are both career highs!

When he realizes that his 3 point game is pretty, starts taking more of those shots and opposing teams have to game plan on that, he'll have more driving lanes again. And with his still improving playmaking he could be an analytics wet dream.

I would love to see what he can do with better teammates.

You will get your chance
All of his teammates are going to get better as they age.
Hayward is basically the oldest player of the core guys (booker is the exception)

I think his free throw shooting percentage is at a career high too..... not sure about his rebounding but it might be at a career high as well

Agreed. Frankly, this isn't a bad thing. If we finish with a top 5 pick that isn't just lottery luck, it proves that we essentially have zero talented players. This team has plenty of potentially good youth and I think what we really need is a good vet or two who fits our direction as well as a year or two for Exum and Hood to really turn it on.

We are not far away from being pretty good.

That is not true at all. Plenty of good players have been on bad teams. Plenty of players have developed into good players that have been on bad teams. If we get a top 5 pick it means we have poor depth, not all of our young players developed how we wanted them to or slower than we wanted them to or the team gave up on winning like it did last year.

Hayward missing some time would be pretty devastating to our overall record.
