What's new

Game #39 Jazz at Pistons 5:30 Mtn.

Other than bringing Watson in for Burks for some inane reason, I was impressed with Ty's adjustments in this game.

The ball movement, and passing is light years ahead when Earl is out of the game.

He's done! Especially on the road, where he seems to wilt under the pressure.
He's better at home.

No, bs, but there was a stretch when we made a run when we were down 12, from about the 8 minutes mark in the third, to about the 10 minute mark in the 4th, where Al was litteraly having his way and dominating with ease.

In that 10 minute stretch, Al didn't miss a shot and he scored 14 points. It was great to watch.

However, there were so many bad coaching decisions in the 4th that it almost cost us the game. Taking Favors out, Earl Watson in, taking Burks out, foye in for purely defensive possesions ext..... I was convinced that Corbin was gonna play Al the entire second half, it was crazy. If you think Al is bad playing defense, a tired Al is on a different level

Ugh. Jefferson and millsap still playing tons while our young guys ride the bench. Fantastic. When will we learn? I'm so tired of watching this team stay in mediocrity while wasting valuable playing time on one year rentals. Yay.

38-27: Earl dribbles two times and stops his dribble in the backcourt. Passes to Hayward out of desperation, who now has to rush to try and get it over the half court line. In his haste he has the ball stolen by Bynum, Knight scores (89-87)

Watched little of this game while watching the 49ers school the Packers. I did see the play above though. Earl panicked like the 3rd string junior high pg having to play in the championship game. That was just incredibly bad. And he seems to pick up his dribble a lot when it is not necessary.

All right, Jefferson is a better free throw shooter than Favors and they looked like they have started fouling to try to stay in the game. A stretch, maybe, but basketball decisions are never so clean cut. At least rarely so clean cut.

Al is such a bad help defender that it puts any lead and any game in danger. This is clean (clear) cut.

Gotta love the "he says one thing I don't like so I can ignore the twenty good things."

His job is to play when asked and not bitch. Considering the PR course every athlete goes through, that one bad thing is extremely telling, and it creates a problem for a coach that hasn't yet grabbed the reigns. Corbin bungled the situation and it has now set a very, very bad precedent.

I'm not sure who that quote was about, but this whole "the vets are pouting about PT" thing bugs the hell out of me, especially when the Jazz have a coach who seems to bow down to those whims. I'm not a Carroll hater by any means, and actually like him on the roster for his energy, but when a guy like that who is at best a mediocre rotation player (and at worse lucky to be in the league) can do this and have it work for him is extremely troubling.

To me, this is the most alarming thing about Corbin. To me, that is not a guy focused on winning. That is also not a guy that is too bright (I think it's obvious to most people what precedent that would set, and what subsequent real issues that would present).

Also, forgot to mention that Marvin was out there an hour before the Detroit game stretching, practicing his dribble, working with a trainer before anyone else came out. What is his timetable for a return?

And he seems to pick up his dribble a lot when it is not necessary.

I've been saying this for years. He frequently picks up the dribble right after he crosses half court, before he even has someone in mind to receive a pass as evidenced bythe fact that there is no one to pass theball to and someone has to come out and help him.

Yep I yelled at the TV when Watson came back in. I understood the thought process of it as Burks was having a great game and just made a mistake but wanted him to keep his positive overall outlook on the game (if he kept making mistakes would of ruined what was a really good game for him).
However when your ONLY option is Watson and how he has been playing since coming back from his knee injury to sub in then may need to rethink that otherwise normal sub idea.
