And one more thing. I think we have to realize that Quin is doing pretty well and he too is a 'youngster' and so some of the things he's doing or not doing are some of his own growing pains. Also, I think he's experimenting a bit. It is clear that there is a great improvement conceptually and it will take a while before the team members are all doing the right things on O and D.

I would guess that we have probably used more lineup combinations than any team in the NBA. He is truly experimenting every game. Kind of cool but kind of frustrating at the same time.

Some very polarizing feelings from that game.

1. The Jazz were not going to win that game because they were playing 8 vs 5. I was ticked a couple times like I haven't been for a while.
2. The rookies show they can play - I was completely elated seeing X and Hood playin well.
3. Booker is great. (For what he is.)
4. So satisfied with Hayward's game. I felt he 'held the ship together' there for while carrying the team.
5. So pissed when Griffin was stiff-arming his way to the hole.
6. So excited for Kanter's O. So frustrated on D in "no man's land" as Harpring pointed out.
7. Alec not watching for his dude on D who floats to corner for open three... killin' me.

Overall though, this was a great game, but just the fact that I have my expectations so high is good news. The Jazz will be competitive in every game (essentially) this year and it will be fun. Watching some of the ball movement a pure pleasure.

Agreed about the 8 vs 5 thing. It was blatantly obvious the Clippers were getting 3-4 extra calls (or non-calls).


I dunno what we can do about that though. We're just young.

After each stretch of games, there will be another player who is on the trade block... We just played a team that's least experienced players are older than our most experience players. This really, really matters in NBA. Not to mention that Clips have MVP candidate (I agree with Harp on that one) and then that $%^&! Crawford is the ultra-offense dude that just pains me to see him come in to the game....

It's gotta be hard though for Quinn trying to figure out who keep in. He wants to give experience and confidence. All of our guys are young too.

I think I need to admit a glaring mistake I've made before when evaluating a certain aspect of Exum's play - his off the ball movement. I was completely wrong and it's shocking how wrong I was... In the SL and with Australian national team when he was off the ball he'd just sag off to the corner and do nothing but wait there. This is something really weird to see from a player who supposedly has a great basketball IQ, and I just automatically concluded that his off the ball movement is lacking, but I never considered that the offense just might be set up like that and that it might be him following instructions. I've been noticing lately the way he moves in our current system. It's quite beautiful actually. He sees plays developing, he's making the extra step to the left or to the right in order to be free one pass away at the 3, and today he made some awesome cuts inside. I was totally wrong. His offensive off the ball game looks to be at the very least good and maybe even verging more on great...

The improvements he's making game to game are awesome. I simply love the potential. I feel like some of his passes are soft right now and he needs to make them a bit more solid and on the point. But with the way he's been taking steps forward, I have no doubt he will soon be fixing even this small problem...

I agree on the soft passes by Exum ,but he keeps improving leaps and bounds ,his explosion to the rim on the crossover was electric ,he gets one a game from now on it will make defenders step a 1/2 step back on him

The fourth went like I feared. I knew that a close game would be too tough for us right now. Paul/Crawford/Griffin all have qualities that let them win close games. Our guys have them at times, mainly Hayward and Trey, but they aren't yet consistent.

That being said, I loved the fight out of our guys. We could have easily gone into the fourth down by 15 but we came back and made it a close one.

Good improvement all around even if a few players had some missteps.

Best thing about Hayward playing well?

I have noticed a correlation between the amount of Thriller post and the quality of Hayward's play.

Hayward plays well, Thriller post less.

Hayward plays not as good, Thriller post a ton.

Totally agree. He had a couple really really nice cuts to the basket tonight for dunks/layups. Felt he forced the 3pt shot a bit tonight, but that mightve been end of shot clock stuff, cant remember.

His passes are soft sometimes, especially across the top of the key. It feels like sometimes they almost bounce twice before getting to the intended receiver. That's easily fixable though. He's getting a lot more confident. Love it.
