Game 4: 11/3/2014 Jazz at Clippers. 8:30PM on ROOT

We lost today's game at the FT-line in the second half(we missed 5 in a row at some point) and with TOs :(

Lots of people are going to point fingers at that, but you have to remember that those were literally the only 5 free throws the Jazz missed the entire game. They put a bit of a damper on a great run we had, but we wouldn't have said anything if they missed like two in the first quarter, two in the 2nd quarter etc.. Still shot 79% from the line, which is pretty dang good. Biggest reason we lost was because we couldn't stop Griffin at the end in the post. He made like 3 or 4 straight buckets or something. But Griffin is a star. Props to him for taking advantage of Booker and nailing all those shots.

The fourth went like I feared. I knew that a close game would be too tough for us right now. Paul/Crawford/Griffin all have qualities that let them win close games. Our guys have them at times, mainly Hayward and Trey, but they aren't yet consistent.

That being said, I loved the fight out of our guys. We could have easily gone into the fourth down by 15 but we came back and made it a close one.

Good improvement all around even if a few players had some missteps.

In the NBA it's called star power. Everywhere else it's called favoritism. Srs the refs bailed the Clippers out tonight.

That was the play of the day for me(along with the Booker putback):

Just finished watching the game. Holy crap were the refs bad the second half. Right before the Jazz made their big run they called about 4 crap calls against the Jazz and Jazz couldn't get a call to save their lives. In the fourth quarter Jazz got a few calls of their own, but the refs just continued to call every little thing the Jazz did a foul.

No one on this team can defend Griffin. When Kanter is on him, he is hitting shots from almost the 3 point line. He is killing Favors and Booker in the post and Gobert gets posterized consistently... Kanter has the best chance defending Griffin, but his P-Defense is so bad, that Griffin is shooting like Nowitzki from everywhere when defended by him...

Considering we finished close against a team that has played a lot of minutes together, it shows we have room for growth and improvement. As our players get more in tune with the new system and log more minutes playing together we should see things eventually click. It might still take another season or two before things properly gel and players are more in harmony. But turnovers should steadily decrease over time.

We need to remember that relative to their years, our players have not really logged that many minutes.. and we have 3 players making the adjustment to being starters. Mistakes are expected... Turnovers are expected. Improvement is expected, but won't happen over night.

The above is true it also helps him they call tick tack fouls if anyone even breathes on Griffin when he's in the post and his push offs....what a joke
While we lost it was an entertaining game, we got close enough to make them sweat alittle- we will learn lots from this, sure beats the hell out of the loss at Dallas.
We'll only get better and we were playing 8v5

Hayward with some not so kind words about the refs after his final turnover.

I don't really understand why Quinn took out Exum and Hood when they were playing very well last night. It wasn't like Burke or Burks were setting the world on fire. The decision, dare I say, seemed Corbinish/Sloanish. When Hood has made two straight 3 pts, he can go off for three more. Hood is either super hot or super cold so you have to stay with him when he has made two in a row.

Exum gets better each game. The only complaints I have is he needs to put a little more zip on his cross court passes. The one time he just blew by his guy and took it to the rack was amazing. He should have down that when he was isolated on Jordan, instead he just settled for a 3pt. There was a play that he got burned by Farmer but the next time Framer tried to take him off the dribble Exum shut him down. I noticed the adjustment. I found myself saying this kid is going to be an above average defender. He needs to work on getting through screens but the effort is there just not the knowledge of when to go under and when to go through.

I was really proud of the effort. The funny thing is that Utah got barely anything from Favors, Burke, Burks or Gobert and they were still in the game. I thought Booker was a monster last night especially in the second half. I thought people were crazy to compare him to Millsap, last night he showed me he can be a Millsap type player.

Clippers have two superstars and probably the 6th man of the year on their team so the Jazz hanging with them was impressive especially when the Jazz got some calls against them. I was really disappointed in Favors last night. I know he got in foul trouble but great players over come that and play better in the second half. Just an average game from him and the Jazz win. Hayward is earning my respect. I don't care he made the turnover. He is getting hammered at times and he just kept coming at it. They had no one who could stop him. Keep it up Gordon and you may be an all-star one day.

Burks has been horrendous this game..selfish, lackadaisical, and oblivious on the defensive end. That is all...

burks type of players must be selfish. thats how they maintain confidence, over individual scoring. thats the exact reason why he should be traded. cuz he is not a good fit for jazz. we need team players not individual scorers.

great effort by our team. Hayward played like a max player, Burks was ok, Hood looked good, gobert Report I love, Exum looks very promising, and the effort was there.

We played against a darn good team on the road who got all the calls.

Favors was limited severely... By the refs.

My only complaint is with Kanter. The man looks like a sucky at offense version of Big Al... Which means he also sucks at defense and never passes the rock. The bad habits taught to him over the past few years might have damaged him permanently.

clippers is a contender and we are not. so this was a decent loss i think. we will make playoffs this season i think.

So you excuse away Favors poor performance and still find time to criticize Kanter. In the first half it was Hayward and Kanter who kept us in the game.
