Game #5: Hornets at Jazz, January 2nd 2012, 7:00 PM MST

Im bringing a bag of ice and a ton of antihistamine to the game just to be prepared if we get stung bad by the Hornets.

Sacramento lights up NO without Cousins. Evans has his best game of the year with 27. They do have Okafor and Kaman that both had double digit REbounds which is mainly due to the poor shooting. If our guard play cannot look decent against this backcourt, I don't know which backcourt we will.

Everything points to a win tonight. Hornets played last night and looked bad, no E.Gordon, Jazz play at home... I would be very surprised if this is a close game.

The Hornets have actual position players. A real PG, A real shooting guard (Gordon, if he plays), a real SF (Ariza), and some pretty decent centers (Okafor, Kamen).

The Jazz don`t seem to have a real PG, SG, or SF (i guess Howard is maybe a real SF). And Favors is certainly our best center, but PF Jefferson will play most of that.

This Jazz team is screwy.

The Hornets are playing the Utah Jazz. You've seen the Jazz this year, right? Why would anything surprise you, even a blowout loss?

If your idea of a real SF is a guy who shoots 35% from the field and doesn't do anything else, then yeah, I guess you could give Howard the benefit of the doubt.

NO shot 0-15 from 3 last night. With the way the Jazz defend the long ball, my guess is that number will be 11-15 tonight. I still think we pull out a W.

Made it to SLC and will be attending my first Jazz game of the season, I'll be the one with the Thor hair cut and the Deron Williams jersey with Howard duct taped on the back!! GO JAZZ!!

Have you watched a single game this season? Howard has brought energy and aggressiveness on both ends, chucking notwithstanding. He's easily been the Jazz's best wing wing defender.

You must be referring to outstanding defensive plays like the one where he nearly took a guy's head off and gave the team two shots and the ball out of bounds. Or the time when he fouled the three point shooter. Or the several times he's been burned playing ole defense. Perhaps if "energy" and agressiveness = jacking shots every time he touches it and making very few of them, yes he brings energy.

Jazz and Hornets my picks for worst record in the west, and possibly overall.

Jazz sitting home today fixing the hangover, meanwhile New Orleans plays a late game in Sacramento tonight. Jazz shooting % is .400 (26th) New Orleans is worse at .391 (27th). But watch out New Orleans is a rebounding machine and the Jazz rank near the bottom in all rebounding categories.

Lets hope for overtime in Sacramento and a Jazz Victory.
Great! Two teams that couldn't throw a basketball into the ocean, this should be fun.

At least now I believe you've done more than look at box scores. Apparently, you've seen at least 3 possessions. Ole defense? Really?

Howard has been the Jazz's second best wing player, despite being brought in on a one year contract to effectively be bench fodder. While he's chucking far too much, he's trying to make things happen (which is more than can be said for other Jazz wings and guards, Hayward excluded), and has gotten to the line 16 times. He goes hard after the ball on D, and has grabbed 12 rebounds, 6 steals and netted 6 assists. He's one of very few Jazz players (Millsap, Howard, Hayward) who seems to be fully engaged when he's on the court.

Maybe he should start playing more like Raja and CJ...

You're right he's playing hard. But there is a difference between playing hard and playing well. NBA teams can't afford to have a guy who's shooting 35% FGs on the floor. Sure if I have to choose between him and Miles/Bell, I take Howard - probably because of what he once was and I hope he can return to something close to that. Unfortunately Corbin's too much of a knucklehead to sit either Bell or Miles. Right now, however, unless any of those three start playing well and earning their time, none of them should be causing Hayward and Burks - Evans to a lesser extent - to sit on the bench.
