Thought most of the guys played well.... Toronto was on frickin fire... They were open on many shots but they also hit some tough ones.

Really impressed with kanter... He seems to be seeing the game better and I see much better effort on D. He'll always struggle on that end but effort is a good start. We gonna tear Orlando up... I know it.

I thought exum and gobert changed the game defensively. I can't put my finger on it, but I don't think passive is the word for exum. Maybe patient, fearless. I still don't know what he is Gonna become, but he has the tools. I wonder if he would play differently as a starter.

No they didn't. The defense still sucked maybe a little less but it was still terrible.

Exums length was bothering lowry. There was one point where you could tell it was getting under his skin. He could not just blow by at will. Gobert had a couple of blocks that made the raptors think twice about going into the paint. Especially the guards.

Respectfully disagree.

Just to see here, whose defense is worse Burke or Kanter? I'd go with Burke, because his breakdown on defense puts strain on the whole team.

Positionally (and with all other things equal), bigs are always (a lot) more important to team defense.

While we don't win, Kanter good performances will be overshadowed.
Bercause Kanter is the reason Jazz lose games. This has always been so and always will be.
He is the odd man out so I am looking forward to extended minutes of Favors/Gobert duo on the court.

Do you think it's just that Favors and Kanter don't work together?

With Enes and Derrick together we outscored them by 3 points in 26.3 minutes.

Over the season those two have a NetRtg of -2.8 in 366 minutes.
Derrick plays worse with Trey (-5.6 NetRtg/469 MIN), Alec (-3.0 NetRtg/427 MIN) and Trevor (-9.6 NetRtg/180 MIN)!

In limited minutes te combo Derrick/Rudy showed promise but they just played together for 7 MIN.

How many times can you say and believe that before you realize it's your own team's problem? The Jazz get lit up every night.

The pick and roll problem is a trend and some of the threes were wide open, but Lowry, Williams, and Vasquez also made a bunch of tough shots as well. Look at their 3-pt. percentages... all of those guys shoot in the mid-30s percentage wise... they went 8/12 last night between them. They were pretty hot.

Thanks for this info.
I want to see more gobert favors so we can see what the numbers look like

I agree.
It wasn't ALL bad defense. Toronto played amazing offense against some pretty good defense alot last night.

Sometimes the jazz played perfect defense and Toronto took, and made, shots that the jazz wanted then to take.
Lowry was phenomenal. Vasquez made some amazing shots as well

But we are seeing that with regularity, meaning we give up too many open looks.

And the Jazz? Do we have any shooters? Gordon is maybe a halfway great shooter, anyone else? Kanter to some degree for a big. And that is it. Every team we face seems to have 2 to 5 lights out shooters.

I just watched all 28 FGM of the first half and here is what I got.

1 FGM: Kanter's fault

2 FGM: Rodney looses Lowry on pick in semi-transition. Derrick switchs. Lowry turns away from the basket. Derrick leaves him. Lowry shoots wit no opponent. Derricks/Rodneys fault

3 FGM: Derrick doesn't get the DREB it goes all the way out to Ross. Gordon closes out. Ross steps in and takes a MRJ

4 FGM: Vasquez kills Trey off the dribble. Floater is good.

5 FGM: Lowry hits a tough MRJ. Trey was the defender but not that bad a D. Doesn't allow penetration! Just a good shot.

6 FGM: Lowry-JV high PnR. Pass out to Patterson on the wing. 3 pointer. Derrick was the defender at the 2.9 . He gave him too much space but my guess would be he wanted to help on that PnR.

7 FGM: Patterson gets the ball on the wing. Posts Trevor up and hits a tough hook from 8 feet.

8 FGM: James Johnson on the wing. Blows by Jingles. Enes late from the weakside. Easy two at the rim.

9 FGM: TO Jingles. Vasquez with the ball in transition. Goes right into Trey. Easy two.

10 FGM: Williams on the wing pick from Patterson. Trevor stays low. Rodney caught in the pick. Williams blows by Trevor. No contest. Easy two at the rim.

11 FGM: DREB Raptors. Vasquez in transition. Goes right into Trey. Tough shot and1.

12 FGM: Williams iso at the top of the key. Rodney is scared of the drive, gives him way too much room. Splash for 3.

13 FGM: PnP on the leftside between Williams(Dante) and Patterson(Trevor). Trevor closes out? Jumps out off the arena. Patterson drives. Floater over Rudy. Bucket.

14 FGM: Bad pass Dante/misshandle Trevor. Steal Ross. Easy two.

15 FGM: Vasquez(Jingles)/Amir Jonson(Rudy) PnR. Rudy stays low. Jingles maybe is still in that pick. Easy 3 for Vasquez.

16 FGM: Lowry(Dante) on the left wing. Amir Johnson with the pick. Rudy is low. Clark overhelps. Pass to the right wing. Splay from downtown Vasquez.

17 FGM: Vasquez in semi-transition goes right at Clarke. Floater is good.

18 FGM: Lowry in semi-tranition after a Clarke TO. Pass to the righ corner. Dante closeout. Ross one
dribble pull-up MRJ is good.

19 FGM: High PnR Vasquez(Trey)-Amir Johnson(Derrick). Johnson gets the ball spins and shoots the ball right over Derrick.

20 FGM: Vasquez in semi- transition pass to the trailing Lowry. Lowy from downtown. Splash. Rodney with terrible D.

21 FGM: Williams(Jingles) at the key. JV(Enes) with the pick. Jingles too slow. Enes picks Williams up. Looks good at first but than trips. Williams with the litle floater off the glass.

22 FGM: JV(Enes) on the right block. Faces up. Shoots over Enes. Easy two. Please Enes why put your hands up? Pathetic!

23 FGM: Patterson(Enes) with the pick for Lowry(Trey) at the top of thr key. Hedge from Enes. Trey goes under the screen. Enes goes back to Patterson. Trey is too slow. 3 pointer Lowry.

24 FGM: Williams(Jingles)-JV(Derrick) PnR on the left wing. Williams splits te two defenders. Enes(Patterson is at the right wing) helps at the rim. Williams with the kick to James Johnson(Gordon) at the right corner. Gordon is there forces Johnson baseline. Derrick helps from the weakside. No rotation from Trey. Pass to
JV. Easy dunk.

25 FGM: Post up for JV(Derrick) almost at the left corner. He goes to the middle. Tough hook shoot is good.

26 FGM: Lowry takes Trey off the dribble right to the rim. Derrick a little late from the weakside. Tough floater is good.

27 FGM: Enes sleepwalks in the zone. Pass from the left wing to the top off the key. Patterson splash.

28 FGM: JV with the ball on the left wing. Lowry uses him as a shield gets the ball and an other 3 pointer. Trey caught in the screen.

We aren't good defensively, but we aren't as bad as last night showed. Toronto was hot. They took and made many contested jumpers... that was my point people.

We suck at shooting. Trey is doing better so that is a good sign. Hood should help that once he gets comfortable. We need more shooters.

Side note... I wonder if we went after Patterson in free agency. He signed for a little more than Booker on a per year basis. Think I would have paid a bit of a premium if we could have got him. Always like him.

Karl Malone cant teach anything

all he does is talk crap.

hes a cool guy but not a coach. Karl coming in to coach was a pr stunt, now stop talking.
You should not speak about things you don't know. Have you ever heard him break down the pick'n roll?
Do you think it's just that Favors and Kanter don't work together?
I think they are both young and need more seasoning. If Randolph and Gasol can work, then why not Kanter and Favors.

Well when you hit a ton of wide open easy shots, you get a rhythm, and all of a sudden the tough shots don't seem so difficult.

It's Favors and Kanter's fault too. Those ****ing idiots better get a god damned clue and start helping the guards out by attacking the ball handler on pick'n roll instead of drifting toward the paint. If I was an apposing coach I'd pick'n roll the Jazz every single time. My ****ing hell would someone badger the ****ing ball handler on pick'n roll situations!!!!!!

Whe the **** do they continue to play like that. Is it a coaching issue, players just that stupid? What the hell is wrong with this stupid ****ing team?!?! Yes, they are young, but there's a fine line between being young, and being dumb as rocks, and I'm thinking dumb as rocks right now, and ****ing Gobert better start holding onto the damned ball!!!!!!

And hears mine. They were that bad. It was open shot after open shot. Not one damned ****ing starter played hard or any heart. It's like team of ****ing grinches out there! Don't make excuses for these pathetic losers. If the raptors had played any other team, they don't do what they did to utah!!
