What's new

Game Thread: Utah @ BYU, Sat. 9/21 8:15pm MT, ESPN2

Colton, I remember there being a thread that some "sports site" that I really think was just a Y fan broke down the instate QB's and why Hill was the best instate QB (as far as why that was brought up that is my best guess).

However that reminds me of another preseason debate/trash talk which I thought strange personally. Which OC would have a bigger impact/help their team more. Guess the reason I found it strange is I remember many Y fans begging for Anae to be fired (or at least in the U vs Y threads I read) and when he was there was much rejoicing. Granted they quickly turned on Doman but I didn't expect them to embrace or re-embrace Anae so quickly.
That must be what I remembered. I believe it was posted on here somewhere. Or linked to it. I remember seeing it here that is why I said that.

Just because one fan expresses a bizarre opinion, please don't think that means that all of us share it!

Something else I wanted to bring up about some of Bronco's recent offensive hires/fires that I forgot in the last post: What's the average BYU fan's take on the fact that Doman and Dupaix got released from BYU and couldn't score another coaching gig? I don't know each individiual's story, but I doubt both elected to simply not coach anymore.

I find it extremely interesting that 2 guys who Bronco had tremendous faith in at one time went from employed at BYU to completely out of coaching in one step.

That whole thing happened fairly late, IIRC. It may have just been that they were "let go" after most/all of the other vacancies they would be interested in were filled.
I also heard Doman is Bishop of his ward. If that's true, he might not have wanted to move. You almost never see current bishops move voluntarily.

Somehow Brandon Doman will end up as the head coach at BYU someday.

In response to the question about who would replace Bronco: I don't know if the name Robbie Boscoe has ever come up. He spent a long time on the coaching staff, was a good OC, and is employed at the university already.
I personally think Anae was told he'd be next.

lol at the BYU idiots getting on green for what he posted when you guys dished out much more than that before the game. You reap what you sow, and green has every right to say what he wants. In fact, he should be able to cram a big fat cow pie in your faces. In other words...eat ****.

There was extremely little amount of trash talking before the game (most byu fans thought it would be a very close game)

After the game byu fans came into this thread and admitted that they got beat by a better team, coach, and program fair and square.

Wow what horrible behavior by us arrogant cocky byu fans..... definitely deserved for green to call us out

Utah wins...what a surprise.

There is a clear cut top dog in the state, everything points to it, and that dog sits up on the hill in SLC.

lol.

Thanks for saying exactly what everyone has been saying captain obvious lol

I feel like my friend put it perfectly when he said "Utah put byu in a head lock and gave em a noogie the whole night."

A dominating 54-10 victory is a lot more fun, but it's obvious to any non-homer that the two fighters in the ring were not in the same class. Utah controlled the game from the start, and coasted to victory.

I really feel like with two more years of Pac 12 recruiting before we play again, that this was the last game in the rivalry as we have come to know it (truthfully this probably happened with 54-10, but the last two years confirm it.)

The rivalry now enters into more of a Utah St vs Utah phase. Their may be a year every 15 years or so where everything breaks perfectly for byu and they have a chance to steal a win, but we are no longer rivals on equal footing, and it will never again be viewed as a toss up game.

It will still be different than Utah St because there is a genuine hatred between fans, but it will be the same as playing the Aggies in the sense that there will be nothing for us to prove by beating byu. We will be expected to win every game.

This is not the way I remember it at all. I'm not going to go back and search out examples but I recall a lot of cockiness prior to the game from BYU fans. I'm not a fan of green's comments either, BTW. But ultimately all that matters is that the good guys won.

Thriller and Duck were very vocal about how BYU was going to destroy Utah. I don't think too many other Y fans were that cocky. Duck was even talking about how after this game, BYU's advantage in talent would be obvious, but I'm sure he's spewed the same drivel for the last 12 years only to see his "superior" team lose 9 of those contests. It's ok though, because USC snuck by Utah State at home by a FG so he's back on the Trojan bandwagon anyway.

I think the overwhelming thing I take away from the rivalry as we head into a 2 year break is that Utah is simply better. Somebody can try to argue otherwise, but when you beat your in-state rival 9 out of the last 12 times, there's really no other way to spin it. I don't even care if each win was by 1 point, when you can beat your rival 80% of the time over the course of a decade, you are the better program.

Is Utah light years better than BYU? Certainly not, but they're still better. For all the flack Y fans give Utah for their PAC 12 struggles, they need to realize that they would probably be performing a little bit worse than Utah has if they were the ones in the PAC. Personally, I think you should be able to beat a team head-to-head before you start running smack on their performance in conference play.

After the game, Bronco, with his typical douchey BYU-ness that their fans all exude, said something like:

"I'm not worried about starting 1-2. We were 1-4 before and we always made a bowl game."

That in essence is BYU fan. Beat up on the lesser garbage teams, go 1-2 every year to the three decent teams you face, then run smack the rest of the year about how great you are.

You're the expert on douchey. I'll take your word for it.

Right, because that's how all of us feel. Wait, that's just how us JF Coug fans feel. Wait, I don't know anyone that actually feels that way. But right on, let the hate flow through you. Your transition to Sith Lord is almost complete.

Truth be told, and I can't speak for anyone else here, but I don't care if BYU goes 1-11, just as long as the lone victory is Utah. That makes each loss against Utah that much harder, but it is what it is. I couldn't give a mule's right ball about going to bowl games or beating other teams, I really just don't care.

The silver lining? I probably get more pleasure watching the Utes lose all of their conference games than is healthy, and it really makes my season to see them miss out a bowl game. Seriously, I hate you all so bad. So, so bad.

^ trout splits hairs of douchery.

Summary:
Green: byu fans, coaches, and players are douches because of __________.

Trout: you're wrong dude. Let me tell you exactly the kind of hating douche I am......
