Game Thread: Utah Jazz @ NY Knicks 2/6/12, 5:30 MST

i'm relly wondering why tinsley never really gets playing time... watson was beyond horrible tonight! like a ghost lost on the floor! burks again didn't play...

Probably because he can't defend. Even though Harris has been non-effective to terrible offensively, he still plays decent defense (the pick n rolls aren't really his fault).

The Jazz were never a very good road team though even with Stock/Malone. We had road records that got us by, but compared to how successful we were at home it was still head scratching they could never get it consistently going on the road.
Jazz Road Records:
1994-95: 27-14
1995-96: 21-20
1996-97: 26-15
1997-98: 26-15
1998-99: 15-10
1999-00: 24-17
2000-01: 25-16

Call it getting us by, or whatever, but I'd those records in a heartbeat.

Yes, but what about the years before that? 1987-1993
Stock and Malone had to learn to win on the road. But they still did lay eggs to bad teams once in a while.

Jeremy Lin is very good player. Amazing thing about him (besides his vision) is the way he seems to play slow but really doesn't. Great change of speed, always a threat to pass, and he can finish. I likey his game.

How many teams do we have to watch torch us on the PnR before A) We hold a special PnR defense practice and B) actually start incorporating into the offense. Hayward runs a couple every game, Devin does too, but the we rarely see PnR on the second unit when we need it most. Yeah, Favors had some nice takes in the first half, but you can't play through him in the post without it coming back to bite you. And Kanter just isn't a low post threat at all.

It would also have been nice to use the PnR to get Sap more involved. Too often we threw the ball around (great ball movement!) only to dump it down to Al and let him finish. Yeah, we had to exploit that matchup, but it would be nice to actually try and get a shot with the offense first a few times.

The bench was beyond pathetic tonight. That whole fourth quarter was embarrassing, and honestly, a massive coaching blunder on Ty's part to not give some other guys on the bench PT after dismal performances by Watson/Howard/Kanter.

Are you basing that off stats? I see a guy who is the most consistent player on a team that is overachieving despite having the worst floor spacing in the league, a lame duck starting PG, and a rookie head coach.

no i'm basing it on his LACK of defense. wheter he is just plain lazy or just not capable

At least Denver, Portland, Houston and the Lakers lost last night as well. Jazz still the 5th seed.

It is so close that 0.5 game separates us from 9th. It is going to be really tough this year in the West, and if we keep giving games like vs Knicks away - we will be out of playoffs by the end of March.

Few things, boy howdie that was U G L Y. For whoever said the Jazz were drunk or hungover that would explain the poor defense and TO's because it looked like they were seeing double or triple and didn't know which one to pass or defend. At one point the Jazz had 20pts and the Knicks had 20pts off the Jazz TO's, they closed the first half with 14TO's and the Knicks scored 23pts off of those that is inexcusable.

For those arguing who's fault it is, there wasn't a SINGLE player that had a good game (I guess Bell didn't have a bad game for his standards) Jefferson was one of the few Jazz players scoring but not very efficient and rebounded and played P&R defense poorly (he didn't box out all the time but he did box out and gave other Jazz players a chance to get the rebound). 2nd half Millsap played a little better but then again his 1st half was so poor he couldn't have done worse and could've only done better.
Harris didn't play well but compared to Watson he looked like a AS, one of Watson's worst games of the year.

In the first half the only two bench players that looked halfway respectable was Favors and CJ but they both played poor in the 2nd half and no other bench player stepped up so bench gets a F-. So as much as I was yelling to bench the starters for playing like excrement the bench was worse and wouldn't have helped, although I would've liked to at least try Evans and/or Burks to try and spark some enthusiasm.
