George Hill coming to Utah

Why are the Jazz telegraphing this? That almost guarantees they are going to have to eat his contract. Why not say something like "We think Trey is a valuable part of our team, has a great upside and is in our long-term plans."?

Because other teams would be like "cool, you can have him..."

Either Lindsey like George Hill more than Teague or he believes Hill is more likely to like Utah than Teague. Lindsey has a personal connection with Hill as well from his days in SA

F*** off to Lindsey and his personal connections! I don't like this trade and I consider Teague better than Hill.

So all the mini-camps to evaluate the draft players has been a farce?

The Jazz have not trust in Neto after this trade.

What happens if Hayward decides next season to opt out of contract in advance?

these silly team allegiances are akin to housewives rooting for their favorite actors in day-time soaps, the way I see it. Thats certainly reflected on this forum. Thats the sell in team sports, thats what generates ticket sales and merchandise sales, they prey on consumers want/need to feel apart of a team,

Damn, dude. That's kind of mean spirited.

I haven't been here in a few months...is everything good?

Hill's agent said they would've looked at Utah next season in free agency regardless. He loves Snyder, has close relationship with Hayward

After reading the Twitter account of Tony I feel good as it seems like Hill wants to be where he is "appreciated":

"Hill's agent said they would've looked at Utah next season in free agency regardless. He loves Snyder, has close relationship with Hayward"

"Just spoke to G Hill's agent: Although on one year deal, the hope is Hill will be in Utah long term"

If the Jazz saw something in the mini-camps that they wanted more than hill, that they had a reasonable shot at then I'm sure they would have gone for it. Just because they found something they like better than what they saw doesn't mean the mini-camps were a farce. Get serious.

I think relationships matter. I think it allows both sides to go into a transaction with eyes open and a sense of historical purview. As far as the mini-camps go, the NBA landscape is a dynamic one and far from being static. Why would a franchise NOT prepare for all possible scenarios?

I don't know what the Jazz feel about Neto but at the end of the day I support their decisions until I don't.

FYI all indications from twitter are that this is not a rental, and Hill wants to stay, is close with Hayward, etc. I think its probably a good move. There is always the question of why didn't we just take Teague, but i imagine it was probably because he is going to get paid $$$$$$$, and we have like 5 guys to extend.

I am mostly bummed because i built myself up for the draft tomorrow. lol.

Hill hitting that age where guys often start to go downhill. If he does sign long term I hope he can still be a decent player.

Folks... how would you be disappointed by this trade? We lost 14 games by 5 points or less and the MAIN reason we lost statistically speaking was defense in the fourth quarter - injuries - point guard play. We have a stud in Exum who is unproven and a bunch of 2nd string/3rd string guards. We otherwise are desperate for veteran presence in a league owned by Vet experience. We have plenty of youth. Besides, everyone has been wanting us to trade into the 20s because the talent just isn't there in a 'weak' draft.

Is there a better stopper at the point position in the league than George Hill who isn't an all star and who can shoot? Wade Baldwin MIGHT be that guy in 3 years. But we want to win NOW. At least I do.

Name me 1 other point guard in the league that is known for defense, plays in a system, and that was attainable. Walt Perrin has said about 1000 times almost no rookies come into the league playing defense. This locks the position down and fills our most glaring hole! I suspect if we had George Hill last year, we win 7 of those 14 games... in spite of the ref job we always get.

LOVE IT! Oh yeah, and he WANTS to be here and Gordon and DL wanted him here too.

GREAT TRADE...

The only thing I would have done to add to it was to include Trey Burke and a swap for the 21st pick as part of the deal. But I suspect something like that is in the works anyways. BRASUPPORT!

I don't like this trade, I'm serious. The 12th draft pick was the consolation prize for not making the playoffs and they throw it away so easily for a player that will be an unrestricted free agent next season.

I remember that few posters wanted the trade for Teague in February, calling it just a "loan" for 1,5 season...now suddenly almost everyone glad to trade for a player with a similar contract situation and lose a first round draft pick.

None of them as good as Hill. Not anywhere close.

That is why I said the batch is not to great. I think some people are overhyping Hill though. He is really more of a two guard. Averaging 3 assists a game does not scream point guard.

Since it sounds like Exum will come off the bench and have minute restrictions to start the season, it'll be nice to have Hill to get the Jazz off to a good start. But it still seems to me that Teague, #12 and Hill are not equal value.

Just once, just once before I die I'd like to see a trade where the Jazz come out on top. Like, Lakers-style on top where we get a quality player for garbage.

It's like there's only two trades the Jazz ever make. They either trade picks for an underwhelming players or get involved in 3-team deals to help another team while we get picks or garbage.

Hill is a defensive beast and can hit the 3, will work well with Hayward, Exum, and Burks. A better fit than Teague imo. Hill is 30 though, a very win now move.
DL wants to put the Jazz on the map next year, but the underlying reason I think he did it was a playoff push guarantees Hayward doesn't walk.

I don't get why you bring up the mini-camps. Why wouldn't the Jazz hold mini-camps? What if this deal didn't go through? What if they saw something in the camps that they really liked. Or, what if they saw a bunch of stuff in the mini-camps they didn't care for and it led them to this decision?

Anyway, sounds like Hill will be more than a rental. Sounds like he fills a need and makes our team better. Sounds like that's gonna pay dividends next season. That's way more than I would have dared hope for from our 12th pick, so it sounds like our consolation prize is even better.

But I get it. A lot of sports fans find drafting more exciting than any other part of the sport. I'm not on that bus so I don't know what kinds of songs you guys sing.

Go be a Raptors fan you filthy maple syrup farmer.

So what does everyone see happening for the minutes/playing time breakdown between hill, exum, hood, hayward, burks, mack, ingles and neto?

In the normal competitive game with everyone healthy....
I think hill starts at pg
Hood starts at shooting guard
Hayward starts at small forward.

Hayward gets 35 minutes
Hill gets 28
Hood gets 31
Burks gets 28
Which leaves 22 remaining minutes for exum (I think my math is right??? 48 minutes each position of pg, sg, and sf?)

Neto and mack only get in during blowouts. (And I don't really care if they ever play) same for ingles I guess.

Maybe Hayward gets minutes at the 4 in small lineups?
