George Hill coming to Utah

Just once, just once before I die I'd like to see a trade where the Jazz come out on top. Like, Lakers-style on top where we get a quality player for garbage.

It's like there's only two trades the Jazz ever make. They either trade picks for an underwhelming players or get involved in 3-team deals to help another team while we get picks or garbage.

It's almost like those are super rare because all the other teams want to improve their teams as well.

I don't think so. We would have had a chance to get him, but there would have been other offers.

And appeasing Hayward by building a good playoffs team is not a bad thing.

Still only have a chance to keep him beyond next year. Sure this improves the team chances still a gamble.

This deal seems like it's a conservative approach. As long as Dante plays big minutes I could have been happy with Mack and Neto. I probably would have put my faith in Dante, Mack and Neto and gambled on possibly getting a surprise upside from the 12th pick. I wonder how Dante is doing with his knee. If he's not nearing 100% they might be playing it safe.

I don't get why you bring up the mini-camps. Why wouldn't the Jazz hold mini-camps? What if this deal didn't go through? What if they saw something in the camps that they really liked. Or, what if they saw a bunch of stuff in the mini-camps they didn't care for and it led them to this decision?

Anyway, sounds like Hill will be more than a rental. Sounds like he fills a need and makes our team better. Sounds like that's gonna pay dividends next season. That's way more than I would have dared hope for from our 12th pick, so it sounds like our consolation prize is even better.

But I get it. A lot of sports fans find drafting more exciting than any other part of the sport. I'm not on that bus so I don't know what kinds of songs you guys sing.

Maybe you forget there is still the free agency that could have made the Jazz a better team without wasting a first round draft pick.

The Jazz obviously preferred Hill to Teague, even though Teague is four years younger and a more potent threat as a ball-handler and scorer. To me, this means a few things:
-They're doubling down on this iteration of the team. Hayward isn't going anywhere
-They don't want a guy that wants to control the offense as they know and like what they already have in that regard. Hayward isn't going anywhere.
-They still want to give Exum an opportunity to become THE guy, and Hill's age paired with his ability to play well without controlling the ball points to that. SIMULTANEOUSLY, the Jazz want some kind of insurance in case Exum never ends up coming along.

This is the worst I've ever been at knowing the draft and the prospects, so maybe that informs my opinion somewhat, but I'm cool with this. I wasn't in love with anyone likely to be there, and at #12 you're just as likely to bust as to find a rotation player. This is a bit of a gamble, BUT AT SOME POINT this team had to acquire an actual NBA player and show some ****ing steel.

I'm a Jazz fan. I have no idea what free agency is.

You mean like the Gobert trade? Oh wait, did that just ruin your narrative? Sorry.

Source please. I am not disagreeing I just want to see some source material.

I don't like this trade, I'm serious. The 12th draft pick was the consolation prize for not making the playoffs and they throw it away so easily for a player that will be an unrestricted free agent next season.

I remember that few posters wanted the trade for Teague in February, calling it just a "loan" for 1,5 season...now suddenly almost everyone glad to trade for a player with a similar contract situation and lose a first round draft pick.

The chance that the 12th pick is ever better than Hill is now is statistically unlikely. We'll win 50 games next year and Hill's agent already saying Hill really wants to be here. Now you'll say of course his agent is saying that. Well, there's at least a decent chance Hill really does want to play here. He says he loves Snyder Lindsey us good relationship with Hayward.

Occam's razor? If they wanted Teague for 12 they would have done 12 for Teague. They wouldn't have included the Pacers in the deal.

im so sick of this is a weak draft class. First off none of the players have played a minute of nba ball. Plus lots of role player types in this class. Maybe not star power but cant have a team of all stars.. Couple draft gems in round 2 this year but yes it is a weak class.

anyone with a half a bball brain knows teagueis way betterthen Hill. Now maybe the Jazz prefer Hill contract compared to Teague but Teague is by far the superior player and it isn't even close.

Are you telling to me the Jazz are doing all the possible to indulge Hayward's requests? First Jeremy Evans, then Mack and now Hill?

I want to see all your reactions if he decides to opt out at the end of next season.

Hayward is a good player, he is not a star.
