What's new

George Hill OUT tonight

This whole conversation is entertaining and sad at the same time. Using a female reference to describe weakness isn't cool anymore. However, slang has been used forever which has established a new meaning for words that have other meanings.

For example - if I call a guy a pus$y, I'm not thinking of a female body part or a cat. I'm thinking of a weak-willed man. I associate the pword with weak men with no conviction.

The same could be said for the c word or bich. There are new meanings to this word.

If we win tonight without Hill, we would all be gay as hell. See how a word can change meanings......

Snyder ought to really shake things up. Start Withey, Favors, Hood, Exum and Neto. Then bring the regular starters in at the 6 minute mark. Throw things completely out of whack. Why the **** not?

I hope I won't need to explain that to her. I hope that she will be strong enough to not let silly jokes and comments get her down about herself. I hope she will learn that sometimes people say inappropriate things and not to get too riled up about it.

I'm definitely gonna teach her the sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me motto that i was taught growing up. Knowing that sometimes words do hurt but to pick your battles (when to allow them to hurt). I hope that if it's just a joke that isn't even directed at her that she will choose to let it just roll off her back.

You need to familiarize yourself with the psychological research that points to the fact that your daughter will be influenced by all sorts of sexism as she grows up, and that it can have real and damaging impact on her self concept.

JazzGal, I respect your opinion and the way you presented it, like an adult, unlike others here. Let me ask you this though - have you ever laughed at a male joke or a joke that others can find offensive? To take a contrarian point of view, I could say I'm offended by your comment about men not being able to take pain (although I agree with you).
I probably have, but it isn't a common thing. I really don't find that kind of stuff funny. It is why I rarely see comedy TV or movies. I have never been a fan of the type of humor that seems to appeal to most people. Oddly, I'm considered quite funny by most of the people in my real life, but my type of humor does not make fun of other people in a hurtful way (at least as far as I am aware). I will admit to going completely out of character when playing "Cards Against Humanity," however, but that is in a roomful of my friends who are not offended by the game. I would not play it with my mother.

Because I think words matter, I couldn't let the original "joke" go without expressing my views. I am so tired of men using terms for women as ridicule to other men. I'm tired of being talked about as "less than" and used as an example of inferiority. Words matter. I cannot think of a time in my life that I have ever said to another woman that she is as "______" as a man (I cannot think of obvious derogatory phrases about men that women use towards other women to ridicule them, hence the blank).

And to those who argue that their wives find it funny, you have missed the point. Use that type of humor all you want to the people who find it funny. But you need to know your audience, and a message board post like that will likely bother someone. If you don't care about offending someone, then that's fine as well. But don't be surprised if someone takes exception.

I have two daughters and I teach them to be nice to everyone they meet. If someone isn't nice to them, they did what they could on their end. Yes, the world can suck but you gotta teach them the serenity prayer. Change what you can, accept what you can't, learn to know the difference.

You're a pretty sharp and level-headed dude. Except when it comes to this subject.

If your daughter, once a bit older, asked you why you called someone a girl for doing something weak and pathetic. Would you tell her to stop being so PC and get a sense of humor? Or would you explain that being a girl doesn't inherently make you inferior in any way, thus this was an inappropriate thing to say?
This convo has gotten out of hand and I apologize for my part in it.
Speaking of my daughter.....
Playing in the back of my truck. (She loves playing back there.

Cutest, best, funniest, smartest baby ever.
I couldn't be happier or prouder of her.
11 months and crawling and climbing everywhere. Almost walking. She loves clocks. And turning lights on and off.
I love showing her everything there is to see. Letting her touch all the trees and plants in our yard, taking her to swim class, singing songs with her, reading books to her.
She was amazing on the vegas strip. Entertaining everyone the whole time. People couldn't resist smiling at her and talking to her.

Well done.

I never suggested parents shouldn't teach their kids resilience. That's not all I'm going to do, though. And not all kids temperamentally find it easy to deal with the quiet sexism they'll certainly experience.

This is my main thing with my daughter too.
Whether she is smart, pretty, talented, athletic, creative, etc, the most important thing to me is that she is nice and kind above all else.

Gobert-34 minutes, Favors 14
Favors-10, Johnson-24, Diaw-14
Hayward-34, Ingles-14
Hood-28, Ingles-14, Exum-6
Mack-18, Neto-18, Exum-12

That's the same PT for Exum, Mack and Neto. There's no reason Mack or Neto should be playing a ton. They just shouldn't. They don't have the ability. They aren't assets we need to assess. Exum needs to get at least 18 minutes of play. I'd argue more like 20-22.

Cmon with all this PC ***** that everyone is the exact same, men are physically strongly than women, theres never going to be a female in the nba wtf

Quin has to have a real short leash with Mack tonight. If he sucks, even just 90 seconds in, put in Exum.

I cant go around worrying about the idiots or society. I need to raise someone with a good heart. Life is too short to prepare for the worst instead of embracing the best. Serenity prayer.
