The facts? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Amazing that a knowledgeable Utah Jazz fan could turn his back on basic principles of winning team basketball and become a hack who thinks iso ability is all that matters.

Hilarious.

And what a stupid strategy it is to only extend those who are sure things. Batum admitted outright that he expected to get less than Gallo on an extension, but the Blazers were only offering $6.5mm per year. Now the dude's making more than $1mm more per year than Gallo. Just plain stupid.

So now the stat guy is resorting cliches like "team basketball" when the numbers don't work out? And I'm the one being laughed at?

What numbers are you referring to? I'm not sure I've ever read a post of yours with a number in it.

I take that back. I have read some of your posts where you argue that a span of a few good games by your pet players represents a sustainable upward trend in performance, and posts where you argue that a span of a few good games by your disliked players is just an aberration. Intellectual integrity.

And you're the paragon of integrity? Get over yourself. This whole thread is based on Hayward having an "uptrend" of about 10 games.

No, not at all. Gordo is now a hair below Al in scoring per minute on the team. He's scoring efficiently, leading the second unit, and playing good D. He's eligible for an extension in the summer. I thought it would be interesting to see where everyone stands on an extension.

Maybe I should have just started another Al trade thread. Or a Ty hate thread? Free Alec Burks!

****.

If Hayward ends the season with the same averages (and aggregate play) as he has now, you wouldn't offer an extension at all? You could always play it like the Blazers, offer $6mm per, and then wait it out.

The Blazers waited until Batum got an RFA offer, and matched for basically 11 per. Point is they waited. They still paid up on potential, but had an extra year of data, and he was a trade chip the whole year they were deciding.

Early extensions are for players teams are sure about -- the Griffins or even Holiday's. Hayward fits the Batum model.

Yeah, I have no problem waiting on Hayward. I doubt he gets anything ridiculous that is unmatchable.

BRING BACK MILLS

This will get added to the cabinet of delights such as "Sloan is an idiot for not developing a (26 year-old) Ronnie Price," and "Ronnie Brewer can be Rip Hamilton."

If Hayward plays at the level he has since the Miami game, extension talk is definitely warranted. And on those numbers, 6 mil per would be too low to get him to give up his RFA.

My concerns with Hayward are more about his ceiling. I don't get excited when he gets hot as a shooter. I'm a lot more concerned with his ability to create offense which changes him from static role player to dynamic playmaker. That type of player I would very much want to extend. I just don't see Hayward as being that type of player (whereas Burks could be.)

Hayward is good, very useful, but there's no need to marry him yet, and especially not bid against yourself when he could be very valuable as a trade chip.
