Gordon Hayward -> the next Pete Maravich?

Being called an @ssclown really hurts. I came here for discussion not to be insulted, Joel.

I don't think that comment was meant for you specifically - BSUMONK - it was (mostly, I think) meant for Lakers_Slapper who totally deserved it if you'd cared to read his comments above..

Does anyone think may be Hayward has the potential to become our new Pistol Pete Maravich?

- both has the vision in terms of passing and making plays
- both has similar shooting form
- Hayward is slightly taller at 6'8 compared to Pete's 6'5
- Hayward is slightly heavier at 207lbs compared to Pete's 200lbs
- both are skilled with the ball (Hayward played PG when he was younger and only 5'4)
- lastly... Hayward will now be wearing the same vintage Jazz uniform!

May be? May be not? What am I missing?

A brain maybe??.

Just follow the yellow brick road. You will find someone who can help you.

One of the most overrated players of all time.

If pistol played today he would be a mix of Jimmer, Monta Ellis, White Chocolate.

He never played defense or did anything to help his team win. But boy, could he chuck the hell out of the ball. He would make Al Jefferson look like a great passer.

Its sad that people cant post idea's with out being bombasted. Of course its a long shot for Haywad to ever develop in to an All-Star but if he was then I agree he would probably be a mix of Shane Battier and Pistol Pete.
The people on this board that are giving you a hard time are the same people that would have counted out Michael Redd, Carlos Boozer and Gilbert Arena's when they were playing well. Dont be an @ssclown have an open mind please.

Rep'd.

A white Scottie Pippen might be a better example factoring in defense, outside shooting, passing, rebounding, and penetration to the lane etc. Gordon is still early in his career though and hasn't played with anyone resembling MJ or been coached by Phil.

WTF are you talking about? He is the number 1 and 2 apg/season leader for SG's in Jazz history. In fact, his career season high of 6.9 apg would equate to being the highest assist average of any player on our team since Deron.... he is the 4th highest player for apg/season in franchise history behind 3 great pgs in stock, deron, and green -- while doing so as a sg. He has 4 seasons of > 6 apg, 8 seasons of > 5 apg, and a career average of 5.4 apg, not to mention his status as one of the most innovative passers of the early seventies. yes, he took a lot of shots, wasnt terribly efficient, and didnt win a whole lot, but to say he wouldnt pass is incongruous with the facts.

This is one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while... But maybe you are trying to be complimentary, because I know how much you love the Yimmer.

Let me introduce you to my tool shed out back. One of the best if not the most creative passers and innovators of offense I've ever seen. Don't lump the pistol in with Al or Jimmer ever.

Just stop already please. Please don't compare a fringe nba starter to an all time 50 player....

Have you lost your sheep material mind? Maravich has basketball records that Gordon couldn't reach if he played 20 years! Offensively, he could never match up or compare......and they are probably about equal on defense!

I really like Gordon's game, but this isn't a realistic comparison. Gordon is a good player, Maravich was a great player. There is little chance Gordon becomes great. Very good is his ceiling (which imo could include a potential all star selection or two).

Maybe if you took a 25 year old Pistol Pete, and stuck him in a brown paper bag with John Stockton causing them to reproduce and give birth to a little baby G. Hayward would this make sense. But the last time I checked....... you cant reproduce people like you do cats. Therefore comparing G. Hayward with that of a legend is not only in-accurate, but merely a complete waist of time!!!! AAAA hoy!!!! I have figured out the key to stupidity for one thread, let me carry on now and regain strength for my next mission.
