Gordon Hayward - what's the issue?

Black Jesus aka Gordon Hayward started to really turn it on in the second half of the season and showed why he has all-star potential, but more importantly showed he could be our franchise player.

The series against the Spurs has been a disaster for the most part. Game 4 is as abysmal as I've ever seen him.

He's got all the tools to be great and I'd say I've been his biggest apologist in this community since being laughed off the General Discussion forum after the second game of his freshman year at Butler when I said the Jazz need him. I guess the main question is:

Is Hayward really as big a bitch as he looked like against the Spurs?

I hope not. I hope he starts to become a killer.

On an unrelated topic - ship Al Jefferson's Mr. Nice Guy, I'm a chump *** out of town. Keep Demaree Carroll.

Go Jazz!

He isn't athletic enough to finish at the rim. Without that you can't be a 'franchise' player in the NBA. He can do a lot of things well but he lost his confidence. That happens too easily to Hayward and it lasts for too long.

I've always said Hayward's game revolves around his shot. His shot allows him to drive and find other teammates. The Spurs gave him wide open shots, daring him to shoot and he couldn't hit. When he decided he wanted to drive, he was bringing it into at least 3 Spurs players every time. Ginobili said Hayward struggles with his shot consistency, so it was obviously a challenge from the Spurs. If Hayward could have continued his 2nd half streak of shooting, the Spurs would have to respect his shooting game and would have opened up our half-court offense. Everyone wants to blame Josh Howards 15 mpg or Al's defense, but I think one of our biggest problems was Hayward's shooting no-show.

I do not know.

I don't care if his shot is off I am dissapointed by his lack of hustle.

Unless his insane amount of minutes in March/April (I think he was like 14th in the NBA) caught up to him ?????

Hayward needs to make some serious improvements with his outside shot, he has been far too inconsistent. For once, it would be good for the Jazz to have a shooting guard that could actually shoot.

I agree. I posted this on the game thread: Gordon Hayward's shooting % for the series: (6/33 = 18%; 1/12 from 3 = 8%; 16/16 ft = 100%).

Yeah, it's become taboo on Jazzfanz to speak negatively about any of the young guys. I just expect more from Hayward, and I think Corbin does too, which is why he got benched tonight.

I like Hayward a lot, here are my concerns.

1. Toughness - West Incident / etc. - You need to be tough. Even the nicest of players do not tolerate that crap.
2. Emotion - On the bench he just looks so disinterested. May be his personality, but he needs to be aware of it. Jazz were coming back from 21 down tonite and while teammates are going nuts, he does the golf clap crap.
3. Shot - Consistency

As much as I like and root for Hayward, I still think he is best as a 6th man getting 20-25 minutes a night.

I disagreed with the Benching. Hayward should have been allowed to close with the other starters. It was a TEAM that lost this series, with coach. Hayward did not help, but I do not like that Corbin Singled him out to close the season. Very poor move on Ty's part. That kind of crap people remember when contracts are up....

Milsap was 4-17 (13 misses) ... horrible.

Harris was 6-17 (11 misses) .. pretty bad.

Gtime was 0-7 , but he was hardly the reason we lost to be singled out. Sorry, that move pisses me off.

I dont think its taboo to speak negatively about the young guys.... I have seen alot of negative comments concerning kanter... burks sucked tonight but normally doesn't play enough to criticize too much.... hayward played good most of the year and favors was our best player and didnt play enough to criticize too much.
Jefferson, harris and millsap get the most criticism because they start and play alot and take most of the shots and responsibility of wins and losses.

Hayward shot horribly the last two games. Frankly, I would have played him less in those two games.

He might have had no legs because he hustles trying to rush out on all the 3 shooters, and he even covered Parker a lot .

If those minutes were spread more evenly with Carroll and Burks , G might have done better.

Hayward never was that good. YOu all have overrated him. Indiana has constantly had a pick after the Jazz and their team is great. Better GM taking Paul over Gordo
