GSW Draft Pick Watch

Cleveland's schedule is just as brutal. They have 14 road games and 10 home games. Detroit has about an even amount. I don't see any of these three teams having a surge towards the end of the season.

I haven't bothered breaking down all of the possible lottery teams remaining schedules, I can just say that for the first time in a very long time I can see the Warriors being a pretty damn good team if things fall right for them (the biggest thing being Curry and Bogut getting/staying healthy), in large part because they seem to be playing decent basketball. I was impressed, frankly.

That said, that means the Jazz HAVE to get this pick this year. Or else it might just be a pick in the 20's all of a sudden.

Here's my contribution on the research front:

Hollinger's projection STILL has GS finishing the with 9th worst record (and winning 4 more games than the team that is one slot worse). Take that for what it's worth, but that makes me happy. Anything can happen though, I guess.

Here's to Hollinger not ******* this up.

Thanks for the find, Numb.
I perused Detroit, Cleveland, and Golden State's remaining schedules - and they're all pretty equal. Maybe Golden State is one less "winnable" game than the other guys but sheesh, GS beat Dallas and Clippers back to back. I'm not worried.

If they're 8th worst they can only move into the top 3, or stay at 8, or fall to 9,10, or 11, right?
I think we'll be fine. No need to cry until there's something to cry about.

Correct. People also never seem to mention that there's also a chance a team might leapfrog GS anyway, so if GS finished 7th worst then all hope is not lost.

Detroit's been surging. They're a few games over .500 over the last 25 games or so I think.

Even if we don't get a pick, I see the Jazz trading Jefferson or Paul to get a lottery pick. I would imagine they are looking at hard at Marshall or Lillard.

Who gives up a lottery pick for Al? What kind of contracts do we have to take back?
Personally, I wouldn't just dump Paul for a lottery pick unless it was, like, top 7.

I was thinking about this stuff for a minute earlier today. KOC seems pretty committed to clean books after next season, which makes the number of teams and the number of deals pretty small. I think.

Houston, assuming they don't make the playoffs.
Maybe Milwaukee
Maybe Cleveland

IDK, some team who doesn't have a top 8 pick.

Houston and Milwaukee are on my list. So is Indy, Phoenix, and Memphis...
Basically, I'm looking for any team that can take him from us for first-round pick and a massive TPE. If the Jazz can get a first-rounder next year, then I only see them doing that if they can package a couple of picks and move up. I don't think they want 3 rookies next year.

I do this even for Indy's ~23rd pick.

Btw, I don't know if that list is exhaustive or correct. I spent very little time researching it.

The days of trading an expiring for a lottery pick are over. The amnesty clause in the new CBA took care of that. If you need to clear cap space or get under the tax, you can do so without giving up a significant asset. Big Al and Devin are not franchise players. I predict Jazz will get nothing for them. But I'm ok with that...better to let those contracts come off the books, like Jazz did with AK, than to be stuck with bad ones.

In an apparent defensive struggle, the Pistons outsucked the Clippers in the 4th, 9-17 and the LA won in OT.
So far, so good...Detroit and Cleveland both lost. If Minny wins at Sacramento, that would be the trifecta!

Houston maybe? Maybe if Houston has the 14th or 15th pick, they would trade it for Jefferson. We'd have to take back Dalembert's expiring and something else. And Samuel could be our 4th big.

Or Dalembert would be our first big. I still don't trust Corbin to play the young guys the minutes they deserve.

I think Houston and Indy are possibilities. That would mean getting a pick in the late-teens or 20s, which I'm totally fine with.
