GSW Draft Pick Watch

I hope we lose tonight.

Best case scenario is th 8th and 10 pick, maybe 9 and 10

I'm really pulling for some picks this year. Playoffs aren't going to help our young guys. Because they are going to be riding the pine.

I am extremely convicted as to what I want from our team, this NBA season.

On one hand, I really want these group of guys to make the playoffs. I really do. I think it would give them so much to look forward to during the offseason, give them that much more motivation to come in stronger. Besides, we could probably make a draft-day trade for a late 1st rounder with some of our assets, or something (akin to what the Spurs did last offseason)

On the other hand, I am fully aware as to what a 12th-14th pick could do for this team, especially if we get a player like Quincy Miller, and he ends up exceeding expectations.

In the end, If I knew right now that if we were to make the playoffs, and the first round went 6 games, and Hayward averaged 30mpg, Burks averaged >20mpg, Kanter averaged 15-20mpg, and Favors averaged 25mpg, Id sacrifice our ~13th pick for it. I would love our young guys to get a taste of what the playoffs are all about, and not having their head down, and having to clear out their locker rooms early in the season. However, knowing Ty's stations, the young guys will probably get even LESS minutes come playoff time; as a result, this makes me lean towards tanking now. And I guess a game like tonight will really decide the outlook of our season: will we continue our playoff fight, or will we succumb to Houston/Dallas at this point in the season.

This is a strange dilemma.

My thoughts exactly. I still don't trust Ty to give these guys minutes. Burks showed that he is the best SG on the team. Hayward showed that he can be the man even without starting. Favors showed that he can be the defensive presence that forces other teams to change their game plan, even against the other teams starters. What more do these guys have to do to prove themselves? More than a win and or a loss, I am interested to see the minute distribution tonight and tomorrow.

Question for you: Are you going to the game tonight? Or if you are far away, will you watch it on cable? The problem with tanking games is that nobody wants to watch them.

I had a theory the other day: What if teams were able to throw in the white flag at any point in the season, cancel the rest of the games, refund the season ticket holders while at the same time, cut the pay of the players and secure their current draft positon. That way there wouldn't be bad basketball at the end of the year. If players want to get paid, they play well and keep in contention. People come to the games knowing they would get a good show, and everybody wins.

Not realistic, I know, but i can dream, can't I? Anyway, face it, Golden state is going to tank the rest of the year, they traded a star for two injured players. We get the pick next year because the trade makes sense for next year being decent for them.

In a way, it makes sense too for us. After next year, Hayward, Burks, Favors and Kanter will be established veterans, Al, Devins, Raja's, Millsap, and Watson's contracts will be up and the Jazz will have two mid to late first round picks to pick up complimentary players to take the minutes that our now rookies/sophmores will open up because they will be starters. Then the Jazz use their huge amount of cap room to get assets by picking up bad contracts with future picks attached, or maybe even picking up a star.

I doubt we will make the playoffs.

We win games at home against bad teams and decent teams, mostly lose to the elite.
We lose almost all games on the road against all teams.

We will either have a slightly above 50% record, slightly below.

This is correct although I am the exception. I watch every game. I go with my brother when he gets his nuskin tickets from work. And I'm rooting for a losses at this point (actually started awhile ago) but especially tonight against GSW. I like to watch the young prospects and look for their little improvements and get excited for the future, and then hope for a close loss.

The problem with us not making the playoffs is that the 5 teams competing for the 7th/8th spot are sucking it up too.

Portland is done.
Minny has Rubio injured and Love is getting wayyyy too many minutes.
Pheonix has a legitamate chance.
Denver just got worse without Nene
And I'm not sure what to think about Houston. Is a 40 year old Camby really going to bode well down the stretch?

I'd be OK with making it to the playoffs if the GS pick came to us. Playoffs is great for the young guys. Portland better start tanking hard.

This will be the second time a team featuring David Lee and Nate Robinson screws our draft pick over. i hate them.

Hey they screwed us before by playing too well. Pattern will hold they'll play well enough again and screw the GS management over.

I have a feeling they are going to keep our hopes up til like 5 games left. Then rip our hearts out.

Uggggghhhhh my stomach hurts.

I think they've got a ways to go to drop below three more teams who are also looking to the upcoming draft. That said, if you look at the state of their team, it would suck for them not to get a pick this year.

Yes I agree..

Irregardless ;) of what happens with GS/Utah, Charlotte picked up a good win against Toronto and New Orleans came back in the 4th to win at New Jersey. That keeps both the Raptors and Nets at 15 wins. Detroit, Cleveland and Sacramento are still the major threats. We need two of those teams to remain behind GS. Detroit and Cleveland have a tough week coming up; they could both go 1-3 or 0-4. Sacramento could pick up 2-3 wins (but I hope not!).

"Irregardless" is an old joke on this board; that's why I put smiley by it. Kind of like a "mute" point or the Best Buy references.

Yeah, I knew you weren't saying it .. was just wondering if someone did. I know it's all in fun, but there's a line on dumbness .. sheesh.

Would you offer Nic Batum a five year, 42M frontloaded contract, knowing it's overpaying, but also knowing that Portland would very likely match (they cleared Wallace so they could re-sign him) and if God forbid they chose not to match (for whatever reason), it wouldn't kill us longterm as, like I said, it'd be frontloaded and much more appealing on our books when the time came to re-sign our young guys.

Just a thought. I'd love to screw Portland.
