GSW Draft Pick Watch

Very bad day for the pick. Cleveland, NJ, Sacramento all pull out 1 pts wins, Toronto pounds Houston and GS loses big at home to Memphis. This is a day that could very well live in infamy. Next 10 days could really be the key to the pick. If GS only wins a couple, I think the tanking will commence.

Maybe I'll eat these words, but don't we have this pick for the 3 years to try and get past the protection for this pick? So I don't see what the big deal is.

Would you rather have a pick in a draft that is supposed to be relatively strong and have it be in the 8-10 range, or perhaps have GS make a few moves, make the playoffs (or even just miss) and then get a pick in the 14-16 range in what may or may not be a strong draft.

That's the worry. The upcoming draft is supposed to be pretty strong, not like last year when you had two guys at the top and then a crap shoot after that.

Holy @*$&*

Someone posted this hypothetical trade for the GS and the Jazz:
Big Al for Curry/Kwame

I'd do that in a heartbeat if Curry didn't have injury problems.....Very bad injury problems.
Holy **** indeed. PLEASE.

Wait a second, think about what you just said. You would trade Jefferson to GS. Don't you want their pick? You saw what Jefferson has done to the Jazz, and they are a stable franchise. The bay area might just blow up!

The Jazz would still have another year (maybe two?) to get the pick and they'd be filling their biggest need moving forward anyway. You take that deal 8 days of the week.

Jefferson would be an awful fit on a running team. Why would GS do this? Ellis/Jefferson might be the worst possible combination in the history of the NBA. There is literally nothing in their games that compliments the other player other than Al getting ORBs.

The Jazz are more of a running team than the Warriors are. And how much worse of a fit is Ellis with Jefferson than Harris? Harris has pretty dramatically improved his play in general of late, but not really as a PG, and he and Al don't really work together very much.

I'm not sure what my point is since the Jazz are a very mediocre team.

The Warriors embody the meaning of the term "running team". Utah does not yet have an identity and plays (or attempts to) at different tempos depending on the opponent. We want to run against the Lakers and Mavs but slow it down vs smaller teams like GS.

I just can't see the Warriors looking to add a Center than dominates the ball. There is a huge difference between Harris and Ellis in this regard, Devin will push but settle the team into a set if it's not there. Ellis just heaves ho.

You seem to have forgotten that Don Nelson is gone. The Warriors are not a running team. They might be the most identity-less team in the NBA.

This is very true. GS is built to run and gun, but Mark Jackson is trying to turn them into a defensive minded/playoff tempo team. This is Terry Porter w/ the Suns all over again.

Okay, if that's your sticking point. To me they sure are. I'm still pretty sure those guys aren't in the market for Al.

Maybe I'm behind the times. If that's what MJ is doing they absolutely have to move Ellis.

Draft pick is starting to feel safe. 7 teams are up 5+ in the loss column, 2 others have 2-3 more, 2 are tied. I think I'm about at the point where I stop smiling at every GS win.

Safe...are you crazy?
It was another horrible night for the pick: Cleveland, Sacramento, NJ, Milwaukee and Detroit all won.
At 15-21, Golden State currently has a winning percentage of .417. Yes, that's currently good for 10th. But they're only 1 game ahead of both Milwaukee and Cleveland. OK, assume the "worst" with both teams finishing ahead of GS. SO, that leaves them 8th. Big sigh of relief, right?

Umm, no. True, they're still 3 games ahead of Detroit and Sacramento, with NJ and Toronto another 1/2 game further back. But keep in mind NJ and Sacramento have played 7-8 more games AWAY than at home. GS has played 2 more HOME games vs. away. Could you easily see a stretch of 6-4 from NJ and/or Sacramento with all those home games vs. 3-7 from GS as they play a bunch of away games and back-to-backs? Very easy, especially since the Warrior's GM has talked about the value of having a lottery pick, despite the owners' insistence there has been no talk of "tanking."

Make no mistake, the GS pick is very much in jeopardy. And we better start hoping for more Jazz losses and/or Houston and Minnesota wins. Otherwise we'll have ZERO picks this summer.

Minny losing Rubio is big. I really hope GS starts winning and Curry comes back.

With Houston, Portland, and now Minny tankng...the Jazz have a good shot at getting swept the first round of the finals against OKC. That could mean 0 picks easy this year.

Curry has been back for the last few games.
