Gun Control

Yes I do, because it means it's going to cost me a lot more now.

Boehner needs to come out and publicly say gun control is d.o.a. so we can get off this.

Hell yeah, let's add a nice excise tax to all gun and ammo sales and maybe it will help out the fiscal cliff situation at least a little bit. Kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

Well to be honest I do not think it is D.O.A. as long as it is reasonable. There are many ways to go about that.

One I am favorable towards is including confinement in any type of mental health facility in a background check to buy a firearm.

I am also open to logically discussing limiting the availability of 100 round clips and similar equipment.

So Boehner should say unreasonable gun control is D.O.A but that they are open to reasonable ideas.

People already are. So you do not have to worry about that.

Let's say that all guns were bad. What are you going to do round up all the guns? IF that is tried I guaranteee a civil war. I am not calling for one but I guarantee it would happen.

If not then that makes your gun ban worthless as by the most conservative counts there are over 200 million legally/registered owned firearms and probably that number again in illegally/unregistered weapons.

I don't think any serious person is suggesting we repeal the second amendment outright. I think there are some sensible measures that can be taken though. When Austrialia had a similiar incident happen in their country about 15 years ago, they didn't outlaw guns; but they did pass some laws outlawing some weapons and created more stringent rules for obtaining a gun. Since then, gun violence in Austrialia has plummeted.

As for arming everyone or putting guns in class rooms, that's a ****ing joke. The last thing I want is to be surrounded by a bunch of yahoo George Zimmerman wannabes every time I go out of my house.

And as far as putting them in class rooms I would bet a nickel against everthing I own that some psycho teacher will go nuts and use it on a student way before it is used to stop an event like this from happening again.

You more then likely already are and have been for some time and yet you are still here. Amazing...

I'd prefer not to have guns in the hands of teachers either. Just arrange for a law enforcement officer, or trained security guard, to be at every school during school hours. Many schools already do this.

However these "gun free zones" are a joke. Schools already ban guns. The Aurora shooting was done at a theater that had signs posted banning guns including CC carriers.

As for the "ban guns" well the far left, which is kidnapping the democratic party, wants to do just that. Just like the far right, which is kidnapping the republican party, wants a wild west type lifestyle in relation to guns.

There is obviously a sensible middle ground that can be acheived.

Actually it's next to impossible to get a carry permit in NY/NJ so probably not.

When I lived in Texas everyone and their brother had a gun and yet they had gun massacres there (Luby's a few years back and Fort Hood a couple years ago) and gun violence is much higher than where I live now - go figure.

I don't think we should put limits on clips. In fact, as long as the police and military keep getting bigger and better weapons, I'm pretty much against telling the legal citizens theirs have to get smaller and weaker.

Yes it sucks that some nutjob went psycho on a bunch of kids. But these weren't even his guns anyway, nor was he legal to buy them. So I don't see how putting restrictions on guns would have prevented this. He would have just stole some other guns and done it anyway.

Do I absolutely NEED an assault rifle with a 100 round drum? I haven't yet. But when I'm being told that I can't get one anymore, it makes me think I might need it in the future. And I'd certainly rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

We're an earthquake, volcanic eruption, solar flare, etc, away from everyone wishing they had one. It may never happen, but to say it's not possible so there could never be a need for assault weapons is nuts. And that doesn't even factor having a means to fight back against tyranny from the most powerful government in history, which is continually taking freedoms away from us.

I think all gun control should be d.o.a. right now. If that nutjob had used his own gun, maybe there'd be an argument. But he stole someone else's gun, so more restrictions shouldn't even be on the table.

I assumed you were out west. That will teach me to assume things. Now that I think about it I should have known you were back east from past comments you have made.

I live in Utah and everyone and their brother has a gun but I am just fine. Never even had a gun pulled on me here (like I have had in other places).

Yeah maybe Texas should start searching minorities like they do in New York. (sarcasm)

And Illinois -- the most restrictive conceal carry state -- has higher gun violence rates than Texas. Go figure.

Salt Lake actually had a mass shooting in a shopping mall (trolley square) a few years back. It was stopped when someone in trolley square who was legally armed shot and killed the shooter. Not sure if you were in Utah back then or remember it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gun_violence_in_the_United_States_by_state

Gun homicides seem to be split amoung red and blue states (gun homicides per 100,000 residents). Of the top 10, 6 voted for Obama. Of the bottom 10, 5 voted for Obama. Seems to be mixed.

New Yorka dn New Jersey are right in the middle of the pack.

Utah has a very easy CC process and it is in the bottom 10. Along with Idaho, Wyoming and the Dakotas.

Strange how peoples reactions and views are different. When I am out and I see a person carrying or glimpse someone with a CC I actually feel fine. Nice to know I have at least one armed citizen if a wacko ever shows up.

yeah, well at least Illinois seems to be doing something right where knives are concerned, it has one of the lowest rates of homicide by knife...

and I wonder what the knife laws are like in North Dakota - maybe knives are outlawed or maybe everyone required to carry one? Something seems to be a deterrent there.

It's not counting bow and arrow deaths.

Couldn't help myself.

Firearms listings temporarily suspended on KSL Classifieds
https://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=960&sid=23445793

Wait... so you're telling me that it was possible to sell guns on ksl before? So someone could put an add up to sell thier 9 millimeter for 50$ and a 14 year old kid (or violent criminal, or insane person) could call up that person and go pick it up from them?
No background checks or anything?
Was selling guns on ksl just like selling anything else in the classifieds (coffee tables, cars, etc etc)? Were there any additional restrictions/requirements for selling guns on there?

Wow this is terrible news. I was planning on hitting up ksl right after Christmas, lol.

Unbelievable that we're allowing this gun control nonsense to happen. Maybe someone should steal a tanker truck and crash it into a school bus so we can outlaw gas and big or fast cars.

The comparison of cars to guns is really stupid... yes they can both kill people but that is where the comparison ends..... I need my vehicle (or a bus or some transportation) to get to work and everywhere else, but i have never needed my guns.
Such a stupid comparison

I wouldn't take Salty to seriously on this topic.

Even though your response proved his point.
