What's new

Guys I'd rather have than Wesley Matthews

I agree that 34 mil over 5 years is too much. That comes out to be a just under a 7 mil a year average.

Of possibilities mentioned I like Brewer a little especially if he is willing to come off the bench. And of course that depends on the contract.

Or we can try and make an offer to Childress. It would have to be a large offer as he is a RFA.

I also like Brown at he right price.

I'd be willing to give Childress the full mid-level.

5/$34 doesn't feel as ridiculous with that guy.

It really comes down to Sloan's perception of Matthews' potential for improvement. Sloan handed the guy a LOT of different responsibilities on the court last season, all of which the kid embraced and improved at very quickly. If the Jazz believe in this guy, and I think they do, they'll re-sign him. Simple as that.
With AK's contract up next year, we can live with another "poison pill" from Portland for a year. So I say AK walks after next year, and Evans from this draft, who's starting to impress, takes his spot in the rotation. Then we may well let Okur walk the following year. That depends on Fes and Koufos. And, Tomic, the 7'2" European, should be ready for NBA action by then. We'll be young, but the talent level is there. I know it's only "Potential" right now...
The big question is will DWill have the patience to work with it, or give in to the "Instant Gratification" bug that afflicts so many?

Lol; what made the Pistons in their day so good was their ability to play hard on both ends of the court against some rather dominant teams, lose some tough hard-fought battles, and come back for more the next season! Their perseverence eventually paid off. Sometimes it's just not quite your time; gotta be patient and wait your turn. But, you don't grow if you don't give it your all on the court, which they always did. Many guys and teams flash one year and then get frustrated and fall off after that...

Childress is an excellent example of the Wes situation as an ancillary model. Childress played 4 years in the league. He basically averaged 30 minutes a night those 4 years. From 3, he shot 23, 49, 34, 37. Wide ranging, but if you go on the last 3 years, you're looking at a pretty guaranteed high 30's. His overall FG% is 47, 55, 50, 57. So you can project comfortably the guy is going to shoot in the 50's. Who knows what Wes will shoot? His college numbers don't support he'll shoot as well as he did last season. Ordinarily, you wouldn't care because he'd be coming back at the price of a guy whose numbers didn't matter. But now we have to pay him at the rate of a guy we're SURE we know. Looney Tunes. And it's not like his other numbers are elite. Let Portland make that gamble.

Luther Head just signed with the Hornets for 2 years 5 million. That is a good deal for him.

This offer for Matthews is still just blowing my mind. What is Portland thinking?

Also Morrow hasn't signed his offer sheet with NJ yet. Jazz should try and jump in and up the offer a little.

Well, this is the part where we make PDX tie their money up for a week so they can sit while we are actively finding a replacement for Matthews. If not, we can always match in the 11th hour.

Also, the new GM for the Blazers might be retarded.

That aint the way I heard it, eh, Ben? I think Head got $2.5 million over two years (i.e., $1.25 per year average).

Oh your right. I read it wrong I though they were saying 2.5 million a year for 2 years. Not 2.5 million over 2 years. Thats even a better deal. Wish the Jazz could have gotten in on that one.

Sure, he got his scoring average up but he chucked to do it. Guy averaged 38% shooting and was a MAJOR reason we lost Game 3 to the Lakers by a point.

Because he missed a desperation tip after SOMEONE else missed the GW? I for one, don't hold that against him at all.

If he was talkin about either one of those two things alone (or even just those 2 things, taken together), then his claim is absurd.
