Hayward - a Bust or Not?

my2centsAs for starting Hayward, I think it is a terrible idea. The only possible reason for starting him is so that KOC does not look so bad for drafting this guy...

Last year Mathews earned his playing time, Hayward is being given playing time so KOC doesn't look stupid for drafting him.

Do you really believe KOC is going to let his ego get in the way? Not only does the guy look like a genius at this point, but Sloan carries some heavy pull with this club. KOC telling Sloan to play a rookie to protect his image is not going to fly inside this organization. They're too respectful of each other to pull such a stunt.

KOC is hated by amateur Jazz Fanz but is seen as one of the best GMs by his peers (ya know, the professionals). He has teams waiting with job offers for him to get fired.

Did someone really suggest that KOC is going to let Hayward start to defend his pick? bhwahhahahahahwahbhabhawhahaha And 9/11 was an inside job!

I'll play along. I knew Elder Hayward was a bust before he played a single game. His lateral movement test at the combine told me he was not athletic enough to play in the NBA. Now he is smart and shots good free throws, but his physical limitations prevent him from playing in the NBA over the long haul. He is the opposite of Evans, who has all the physical tools, but is still learning the game.

As for the other draftees I disagree. As I have stated in previous thread I would have drafted in order sanders, Paul, patterson, babbit. While none of these guys are tearing up the league they have at least shown ability to play in this league. For instance, Sanders defense is very good and he is already in the top 10 in block shots during the preseason and he has played very limited minutes. Sanders defense is very good. The others aren't playing as well, but I think all are better than Hayward.

Just because Sanders can block shots makes him a good defender?

I never thought I would say this, good game Hayward! Now its still only preseason so whoever started the thread "lets build around Hayward" needs to be slapped back into reality. However, I did not think Hayward could do that. Good job. Still think he is going to struggle as a rookie.
Now if he could put up the line Larry Sanders put up last night (19 minutes, 1-3 fg, 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block, 2 turnovers, 5 fouls) the Jazz would be golden...

We cant let the boxscores sway reality. Clearly we should have picked Sanders. After last night we can clearly say that Hayward is a ball hog!

Hayward played great against the Lakers and it actually looked like he stopped thinking so much out there and just started playing. Same thing with CJ Miles, when he stops thinking about how good he wants to play and just starts playing he exceeds expectations. Very happy to see Ole Gordo play a pretty dominant game even if it is the preseason. Big confidence booster for him.

That's absurd, there's SOME merit to the 9/11 conspiracy.

Two words---Dick Cheney. Next game I expect Hayward to go 10/10. Will be interesting to see how he does Tuesday. Will Phil actually put a game plan out there for preseason to stop Mr. Hayward?

Heyword was a ballhog, and lucky. Every shot was off balance, and banked in. One time a Laker accidentally tipped the ball in, and Word got credit for it. Did any of you watch the game. He was worse than Chrissy Paul..... dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, drive, off-balance shot.... lucky bank.

He should be benched, and we should never see him again.

He's not the next Michael Jordan, he's the next Adam Morrison, except he's white.

kid has bust written all over him. He is not athletic enough to guard the premier 2s and 3s of the league. Bench player his whole career. Maybe he can become a 6th man. Jazz passed on lots of better players to draft this guy( i serious think they did draft him cuz he is white) ..Whats honz going to do when the boy he has a crush on cant get off the bench..lmao..sloan going to have him buried deep on bench by end of season just wait and see. Sloan dont play nice with rookies.Wasted draft pick we will all agree on come 2015

paul george, xavier henry,ed davis patrick patterson, luke babbit, james anderson would of all been betetr picks and all will be better pro players mark my words

Every single person on this page who is giving Hayward ***** right now is simply a drama queen stirring the pot. Here is why:
1. The season hasnt started yet.
2. He's playing within the very difficult Jazz system.
3. He's only 20.
4. THE SEASON HASNT STARTED YET.
He was strong in the summer league, has had a few "good" games in the preseason, and a great game last night. I guess if your in the top ten draft picks your suppose to start off as an all-star. If you had to rank the rookies so far this year I bet Hayward would be ranked higher then his ninth draft pick status.

Is it really lucky if he keeps doing it over and over? He may seem out of control at times but believe it or not, this unorthodox style of play is actually just that, a style of play. He is actually very much in control and actually knows how to play basketball, imagine that.

I recalll Hornacek seemed to put in a few off-balance floaters.
