What's new

Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

I think some of us think that Burks can be better than Hayward.

What if Burks averages 18/4/3 next season on 45% fg and 35% 3pt? I could see him easily doing that, especially in Snyder's offense. Should we have to match a max contract for him too? Those numbers are better than hayward's this year...

This just seems like a bad idea.

Problem is the market is already set... Our deciding to match has no bearing on the type of offers they will receive.

I do think Burks will be the odd man out eventually, which makes me a little sad. I think Exum has some similarities to Burks, but we will see.

I get that people like Burks. I like Burks too. I just don't think he will ever be the all around player that Hayward is.

I am pretty sure most of the league views Hayward as a much better player than Burks, regardless of what some of the posters on Jazzfanz think.

This. There are a lot of Jazz fans that overvalue Burks for some reason.

Probably true.

There are apparently teams that overvalue hayward too.

Maybe next year a team overvalues burks and kanter.
Should we overpay them too?

Also, Arenas' contract was 6 years and $111 M. He was also coming off of knee issues when he signed the deal. The risk in that deal >>>>>>>>>>>>> the risk in Hayward's deal

A bad contract is a bad contract

What did that first and those seconds turn in to?

Read please... they have not been conveyed yet. Point is they got nearly all expiring contracts and draft picks.

That's how it works. If we can't stand the heat then we best get out of the kitchen.

Correct but all bad is not equal.
True
I would rather pay haywards deal than ak or arenas.

But i think its smart to avoid all bad contracts

Oh I agree with you, not a fan of the deal. Especially the kicker. But this doesn't ruin the team as some have suggested (not you).

Okay, so fans disagree. What's the best objective measurement? PER? Ppg? +/-? FG% 3pt%? No matter what you use or a combination, they are very close. Burks is younger and has improved significantly every year. Hayward is older and any improvement (if any) since his rookie season has been negligible. Give me Burks over G-time, but I certainly wouldn't give AB the max.

If Burks played as many minutes as Hayward then everyone would be saying keep Burks and let Hayward go. But because the average fan just looks at totals. They like Hayward more. The average NBA fan is a joke.

I like Hayward, and while I am uneasy about the contract, I really hope the Jazz keep him. He makes the team better. He may always be overpaid, but I don't think the contract anywhere in the same ballpark as Arenas', Rashard Lewis, etc. Not a great deal like Favors, but not something that will ruin the team.

So they got nothing.
Thanks

Super dumb statement. They got future picks that will be conveyed soon.... the same exact stuff we got in our salary dump last year. Those picks will turn into players and they also got their flexibility back.

Thanks

salary dump

Yup, salary dump.....that is what everyteam hopes for when they sign a player to a huge contract.

"boy I hope one day Hayward can turn into a salary dump for us"
