Hayward > Kirilenko

The Thriller

Well-Known Member
At least he can take it to the basket strong, rebound, and doesn't airball every time he shoots.

Seriously though, Hayward looks like he could easily put Kirilenko onto the bench.

I am mildly excited about Hayward too but a completely healthy and active AK is something totally different. I think the real Hayward will be completely revealed only next season although he is coming along fine.

atleats he doesnt flail his arms when goign for a layup or whatever

atleast Hayward tries on defense. ak Gambles and then tries to block the shot. failing more often than not

please do tell?

1 game in every 3 weeks we get the tootaally different ak.

ak doesnt even try on defense ak just SUCKS

AK is one of the most frustrating players to play in the NBA, IMO. Sure, a player with all of the talent in the world that doesn't perform or try like they should isn't the rarest thing on earth ('Sheed, Odom), but AK's length, athleticism, intelligence, and raw feel for the game is like nothing I've ever seen. His descent from nightly 5x5/triple-double double threat/complete gamechanger to whatever he's been doing for most of the last 4.5 seasons now is jaw-dropping.

But Hayward looks nice. I'm stoked.

I just want to also mention that AK's entire approach to defense is reactionary. I've seen no evidence that he reads even basic scouting reports or has even a basic understanding of the most well-known/star players in the league (which hand is their strong-hand, if they can hit a jumpshot or not). Both AK and Battier have shown to have a significant impact on a game but the only thing they share in common as players is their intelligence. Battier has made a career of pouring over scouting reports, advanced statistics, and practicing the dirty work while AK books vacations during the playoffs and rides jet-skis. I refuse to believe that AK is the best player he can be.

Anyway, let Florence Henderson/He-woman sit on the bench and pout. I'm so sick of his ****ing bull ****.

At this point I am for starting Hayward. Hayward needs all the minutes he can get and he is using them well. To Ak, the minutes are just a burden.

So anyone gonna argue with me that Hayward isn't an NBA caliber athlete anymore?

It's amazing how this board has turned into a Hayward fanclub overnight. So few people here gave him a chance. So many bashed the pick, and thought a few sketchy performances backed up their opinion early in the season. He's had a few good games, and suddenly he's the ****ing messiah.

I like Hayward. The pick made perfect sense in the wake of the AJ deal. The amount of heart and tenacity the kid is showing is proof that he was drafted as a REPLACEMENT for AK. He might not unseat him as a starter, but the way their using him is pretty telling of what we can expect the front office to do with AK. I can't imagine AK isn't on the trade block right now.

I like AK and have defended him quite a bit over the years (perhaps too much). When he's on, when he shows up - he's a beast. But sometimes the postseason isn't the only time he takes vacations. And if the Jazz don't move him before the deadline, there's no way they resign him to a new contract. Someone out there will be willing to pay him more than Utah is.

I have with-held judgement on Hayward thus far in the season, largely because he looked so tentative and he wasn't getting enough burn to do much anyway. The past few games he has really come on strong and he might actually be what we thought Fes and CJ were for a few years now, namely a young players that just needs the minutes. You can see his confidence growing and, more importantly, his enjoyment of the game. CJ is moody - if he's doing well, he is jovial and expressive, if not he is dejected and down. Fes just seems out of touch too often, like the lights are on but now and then no one is home. Hayward has struck me as having a good head on his shoulders and is more interested in having fun and playing hard. That is a recipe for success. He seems to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time and he has decent chemistry with our guards. I anticipate him improving steadily as he gets the PT. Hopefully CJ coming back from the flu won't cut Haywards minutes too much. I am all for cutting AK's minutes for Hayward at this point. Let the kid who WANTS to play stay in the game. AK is just too disinterested anymore.

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Utah and Philadelphia being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Utah and Philadelphia had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

7.0 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 2.0 apg in 18.7 minutes

It would clear up minute issues, as Kapono would not be expected to get very many minutes. This would give us an above average perimeter player in Iguodala to complement the rest of the starters and take pressure of Deron. We would be a very formidable team. Depth Chart:

PG: Deron Williams, Earl Watson, Ronnie Price
SG: Andre Iguodala, Ronnie Price, Jason Kapono
SF: Gordon Hayward, C.J. Miles, Jeremy Evans
PF: Paul Millsap, Mehmet Okur, Jeremy Evans/Francisco Elson
C: Al Jefferson, Kyrylo Fesenko, Francisco Elson

*nodding head* ... totally TOTALLY agree with this comment.

I wasn't for the Jazz drafting Hayward (thought they should have drafted Aldrich or Henry instead), but I had this wild and crazy thought when Hayward got drafted:

Let's see how the kid does in his rookie and second year before he gets bashed too much. I know, I know, a far out there thought. I still think that, although with the amount of hate the kid got around here I'm now a big fan of his. It was easy to see he had skills, even when his shot was sucking it up. It was a far cry from Morris Almond who just looked absolutely lost on the court when he wasn't shooting.

I think this would be decent, at least we get something solid back for AK, and I think it makes us better in the long run. Why would Philly do it other than AK's expiring? I don't know maybe that would be enough.

Frankly I am not that big a fan of Iguodala. And isn't he more of a wing than a 2? But if he can play the 2 solidly he would be an upgrade over Bell.

Nope, I've liked him all along. I think it's funny how everyone loves Hayward now that he's stringed a few good games together though. The guy seemed to have the worst luck in the world the first 30 games of the season, nothing seemed to go right no matter how hard he tried. All of a sudden he gets a few things to go his way, gets his confidence going and voila, he's a contributer! I'm excited.

Thanks for speaking some sense into the thread.

AK is just too disinterested anymore.

Again, ridiculous. Go re-watch the Memphis game. AK only played 18 minutes, but they were all active minutes. He didn't stand around, he was active on defense and he was running through the routes on offense, play after play even without touching the ball. He set people up for good lay-ups (2 of which were missed) and remains one of the best passers on the team.
