What's new

Hollinger REALLY high on the Jazz

And he never won any with 20-30 points and 10-12 boards either? If we were up 5-8 points with 5 mins left did he help us get to that point or did we get there in spite of him? Seriously?
I am ALL for trading Al or, IMO, SAP more, for #6-#12 or that range. Go full tilt with the youth movement.
But the non stop Al whining is silly.
Yes, he is flawed, as Sap is also, but he helped us win more than he helped us lose. Again, IMO...obviously, I am in the serious minority with that thought. All Al defending aside, yes, if KOC can trade him for a good pick, or maybe a bonifide PG, do it. Im all in with the youth having our future.

I'm so sick of this response. It's silly. Al is a ball stopper, the worst thing in basketball. How did Denver fare once Carmello was traded? Just fine. You don't think Harris, Millsap, Favors, Haywood, and Burks could each score 4 more points per game actually running an offense? Heck, Favors went from 9 pts a game to 17 when he started for Favors.

This argument is silly. You are saying That the Jazz are all Al and nothing else. You don't think Utah beats Toronto if Favors is in front of Barea trying to block his shot vs Al standing there scratching his balls? What about the game where the Jazz are up 16 or 18 against Minnesota and their defense falls apart? Or the other countless games where Al's defense severely hurt us. "Oh, but he scored 18 on 25 shots." Give me a break.

Here is Big Al's real value- he is a legit number 1 offensive option the other team have to prepare for. He and Millsap have deflected attention away from Favors, Hayward and Burks. Last season that was really important. Maybe Favors has progressed enough to not needing that protection.

He is not a legit #1 and makes preparing for the Jazz even easier. How many games when we were down 3-5, did we give the ball to Jefferson and he carried us to a win? I can't remember any. Millsap was more our #1 in that regard than Jefferson. Two, if you can convince the Jazz to rely on Al, you only need to guard one player. What makes OKC, SA, Boston, etc so dangerous? You have to prepare for 5 players, not one.

That is why I believe the Jazz immediately get 3-5 games better without Al. Our offense becomes much more diverse, and our defense vastly improves...not to mention practice, offensive player moral, etc.

I fully believe (and have believed from the start, whether that makes me more or less credible, I don't know), the biggest thing Al helps a team do is lose more games than they would otherwise.

I hope I'm wrong, or at least, that some other front office is tricked into thinking he can help them.

Uhhmm I think JJ Barea is on Minni, so yeah I think your example is all from the Minni game just before the AS break. Also note that one of the Jazz' best defenders in Hayward made the initial mistake of over pursuing or over playing him giving the driving lane.

Like Scorp I think Al gets to much hate but agree I can see the value in trading him, he has his weaknesses and has hurt the team but to completely ignore any positives he brings is just blind hate. The attention he garners does help the team (not just the pure points) but with adjustments and potential improvement the team may be able to perform even better (due to his weaknesses).

Positives....sub 50% fg....19 pts on 17 shots...3ft a game...misses one of them...no defense...no passing skills...ball stopper....

The dude is terrible. He plays in the post, yet shoots sub 50%. He plays in the post, yet doesn't shoot ft's. Come on now.
