What's new

Hood in January

Yes, good point. Cj miles was fantastic on paper. Great looking shot, good size, athletic... yet horrible

has anyone seen CJ run a pick-and roll in the 4th quarter? Come on you guys. COMPLETELY different players.

Having said that, Indy is the 8th seed in the East and nothing special. Would you trade Burke, Burks, Hood, Lyles, the OKC 1st AND fairly protected 1st of our own for Paul George? Would they do it?

Nope. Now is the worst time to trade Hood. Jazz striked a ****ing diamond with him. Like NAOS said-- good PG play will cause tremors in this ****ing league. I am so, so high on Hood. Zero weaknesses in his offensive game. Shot, handle, passing, size. He passes every eye test.

I would say getting to the ft line is his biggest weakness.

Anti cake-bakers: name one FA wing that could have been had last offseason that is playing better than Hood right now.

And ppl wanted him to come off the bench. Lolz.

Kent Bazemore's been quite good for ATL, he actually gets paid less than Ingles this year too.

I was talking about how I fell in love with hood the first time I saw him shooting in a jazz scrimmage right after the draft and how I immediately thought he would be good.

Spazz said that we all hoped that hood would be good when we saw that but he had to pump his brakes a bit because allot of us had high hope for miles due to how great he looked "on paper".

Spazz finished by saying he isn't really worried about hood anymore because hood is looking really good and consistent. I agreed.

No where did either of us say that they are the same player. We just said they both had beautiful strokes on their shot early on

Per 100 possessions:

Hood: 24.3 points - 5.6 rebounds - 4.5 assists - 41.8% FG - 36.5% 3PT - 88.1% FT
Harden: 23.6 points - 6.0 rebounds - 4.2 assists - 43.6% FG - 34.9% 3PT - 84.3% FT
George: 21.6 points - 10.0 rebounds - 4.3 assists - 44.0% FG - 38.5% 3PT - 80.2% FT
Thompson: 23.5 points - 5.3 rebounds - 3.2 assists - 42.2% FG - 40.1% 3PT - 84.1% FT

Veddy interesting. Pre-draft I used to say Rodney Hood has a chance at being one of the best Lefty shooters in the league, 1½ seasons later he's gotta be one of the best already..

Those numbers are better than I would have expected. If he turns into an Alpha scorer, then the Jazz will be in good shape. That's the one big thing that they don't have yet. If they managed to get that late in the first round. . . even better.

Rodney has taken 59 catch-and-shoot 3s in January and is shooting 50.8%. The only players shooting better in January with more than 50 attempts are Curry and Ariza. His eFG% on Catch-and-Shoot in January is 76.7%

Rodney pull-up jumpers may even be more impressive. He has taken 71 pull-up jumpers in January and shooting 45.1%. Taken 29 Pull-up 3s and shooting 41.4%. His eFG% on Pull-Up jumpers is 53.5%. The only players with more than 50 attempts with a better eFG% are Harden, Curry, and McCollum.

That's the big one. It keeps defenses honest and makes them go over screens instead of under (like they do on Burks).

God damn. This is awesome, but also pisses me off.

Why aren't we better?? Remember Haywards slump at the beginning of the year? He's obviously out of that. Hood is playing great. Why can we still not close out games? Why do we just look plain bad every couple of games?

You can blame inexperience and injuries I guess. But something just feels off. I watch with my friend and I tell him 'I'm 100% positive we will lose this game' if it's within 5 points with a couple minutes left. You can just feel it coming, and I'm always right.

It's frustrating as hell.

I'm happy with the players, and I guess I'm happy with the direction. But I can't be the only one who feels like it's just not quite coming together. We should be better, that's all there is to it. Is this a classic 'less than the sum of our parts' situation? If so, who is to blame?

By advanced metrics we are pretty good, 10th best offense and 15th best defense. Lost a ton of close games. Hollinger certainly isn't betting against us, 70% chance to make the playoffs.

The Jazz have one of the worst PG rotations in the league. That holds us back. If we have a top-12 PG, the Jazz should be a 50-win team.

And how many games has Favors' been back? And Gobert?
Had injuries to our two best defenders for 17 and 20 games, respectively. 18 games and counting for our 6th man, Burks.
Also the bench was pretty bad. Still not great but Withey has now found his niche and Lyles is playing a LOT better than he did for the first 20 or so games. Coincides with Quin deciding Trey isn't a backup center.

To that I say:

So are you all in on Exum to be the guy? Sounds risky.

And if you are waiting for the injury free season to make the jump then you will be waiting for a long time.
