What's new

Hood traded to Cleveland for Crowder; Johnson to Sacramento

An aspect that I think is huge is the Favors insurance thing. I know Crowder is measurably undersized, but he's long and a ****ing ox. He could be our answer at the 4, eventually.

I think he becomes our starter there... I know some have doubts but look at the western conference... which PF would abuse Crowder in the post or on the glass... Aldridge, Davis/Boogie, Taj Gibson

He hasn't been used there as much but he's also never had a center anywhere nearly as good as Rudy. Horford is good but rebounding was his issue. Rudy doesn't have that.

I think we move to a Favs starts and plays 4-5 minutes and then we go to Crowder at the 4 and stagger Rudy/Favs. Tell Crowder he is loved everyday and give him a hug so he doesn't hate coming off the bench.

We. Don't. Have. Max. Space.

This may make it more likely we try and bargain hunt with our MLE. We don't have functional space really at all. I think your starting lineup next year is Rubio, DM, Ingles, Crowder, Gobert... I think we try and sign a bench scorer like Will Barton, Wayne Ellington (a little old), Tyreke Evans with our MLE. We might also trade some of our unguaranteeds for bad salary to move up the draft board or get additional picks... or for a guy like Evan Fournier.

With Hood, Thabo and Alec off the books we would be close though? Genuinely don’t know.

Low ball him $15-17 million, i guess that is the new NBA, but there is no way I would pay him that amount. I doubt he gets that amount nevertheless I was a big fan of Rodney's but he is not reliable all the time and if his shot isn't going he doesn't really do anything else. I wish him well but there is no way I want to pay him that kind of money.
I mean look at the cap numbers: mid level is about 9millions if I'm correct. 15 is 67% over the midlevel, 17 is 89% over it. When Favors signed his flat 48/4 contract midlevel was around 5.5, so the percentage of the cap was actually higher than a 15 per year is nowadays.

If the Jazz keep Dante at 10 million, renounce all the non-guaranteed guys and favors/Neto, and sign their first round pick they will have 10 million in cap-space left. So no, they really cant. They can get low enough to sign some MLE guy, which might get you a really nice player this year.

Kind of feel for Rodney....he plays for the Cavs now. Every time he has a tummy ache it will be ESPN front page. And if he got nervous starting for the Jazz on opening night, what will happen in a conference championship game?
.
Cavs are not making to ECF this year.

Alec is here though.

?

Would also have to renounce rights on everyone.

This it is doable if we move AB and renounce the non-guaranteed guys. Jerebko and Udoh are good values... Thabo if healthy. I don't think we are big players in FA. I think we look at lower tier MLE guys.

I have mixed feelings about this trade for a few reasons:

1. Hood requested a trade because it hurt his feelings when he got booed. **** the fans that booed him, straight up. Weak, assholes. But the fact that this shook him this much is telling. The guy is a head case and his streakiness only makes this more evident. But still, stupid fans made the Jazz look bad.

2. How are going to replace his 17 ppg? Crowder will not provide the fire power Hood, although inconsistently, provided is going to hurt a team that already struggles to score. Hood and JJ have saved this teams *** many times. I fear the playoffs may not happen this year.

3. I like Crowder and think he will return to BOS form with the Jazz. He's a great addition on a good contract. At least we got a piece that will contribute this year.

4. More O'Neal please.

All in all, I loved Hood. I'm sad to see him go. But it was obviously time to turn the page. Unfortunately, I think it's at the detriment of our playoff hopes.

We only have to replace 20 pts every third game or so...

For real though I think we get better defensively and will move the ball a little better with JJ and rod off the floor... so the system will replace some of that offense. It will bog down though sometimes.

The Jazz have always been about security and good contracts. So even though Crowder is sucking this year, they will hope Quin can coach him up to at least something close to what Brad Stevens was able to do.

There was likely a 1% chance of Hood walking for nothing. There is very little money for FA this year, which is why sweet Lou took a deal for 8 m a year. Utah likely could have signed Hood pretty cheaply. All things considered, this trade has the possibility of being good or slightly bad, but not some disaster.

If nothing else, Utah traded for the guy who broke Haywood's ankle. So that's a plus.

All it takes is one team. Philly, Dallas, and Atlanta were threats to pay him big.

1. A head case? That’s a little hyperbolic. He’s got a different psychological makeup, and not necessarily even one that’s abnormal (even for sports), but headcase is so far off-base.

2. I think the style both Hood and JJ played meant we had to take the ball out of other peoples’ hands. I’m not convinced the scoring will be a big issue. I feel the same about Udoh and Favors — I think we’d be better off with Udoh even though Favors how more overall talent.

3. He’ll be a good value deal, for sure, if only we could get Patrick Beverley.

4. For sure, but I think he loses minutes here. Next year, though.

2. How are going to replace his 17 ppg?

He took kind of a lot of shots to get those points (he wasn’t all that efficient)

So in answer to your question, simply have other players take the shots hood was taking. Could work out even better if more efficient players are now taking the field goal attempts that hood was previously.

Ehh, it will be difficult. We dont win the Memphis game without Hood's offense. The Pelicans game might have even been a struggle without Hood. There will be nights were you cant tell he is gone, but there will definitely be games where he is missed.
