What's new

Hood

Increased usage will push most of Hood's non-scoring stats up toward Haywood territory because it will give him far more latitude. GH enjoyed a ton of leeway when his shot was off, and that allowed him the time to contribute in other ways.

Whichever way it goes, Hood will get a huge opportunity this year. He may get 15 shots per game and will have a chance to earn a big contract. He can't ask for more, tbh.

But GH was more versatile, better defender, better passer, better handle. Hood will have to improve in other areas than just shooting.

I think that was Cy's point in his response to my post. All I am saying is that I think Hood's overall game will improve with Hayward-esque usage (30-35 minutes).

As a backup, if Hood missed a few shots he was substituted almost immediately. I'm betting his rebounds/assists/steals all go up if he has the same luxury (30-35 minutes no matter what he does) that GH enjoyed for the last few years.

When Rodney is aggressive and healthy, he can be a great scorer. He needs consistency but he also has the ability to go off like he did in this game. He is fun to watch when he plays like this. He needs to be more consistent and when his shot isn't falling he needs to find other ways to contribute.

No doubt.

I was in a suite at the game for that one.
Amazing!

One thing I noticed (not just in this highlight) a lot over the years is that when non-haywood jazz players made huge plays, haywood never seemed as happy for them as the other teammates. Or when there would be a scrap/tussle going down it seemed like Haywood often was the last player to have the jazz players back.

**** haywood btw.

I hope hood can develop his scoring at the rim. A lot of his scoring inside still comes from getting deep in the post and shooting over people. Which works well with his size, but I think it probably does make it a lot more difficult to get foul calls, and it can stagnate the offense somewhat. This is just going off my memory mind you, I haven't looked at any of the data.

lol I thought the exact same thing watching that! I seem to remember every big highlight play like that, I'd find myself watching for Hayward's reaction. I guess deep down I always questioned his commitment to the team.

Thanks cowhide for those highlights.

I remember a few years ago I felt like Rodney was as good or better than anyone in the league at going hard towards the hoop, stopping on a dime, and elevating way up for a 10-18 foot jumper.

He has a pretty good search dribble, decent post game (nice lefty hook/push shot) and is underrated athletically.

I still think he has probably the prettiest or second prettiest shot in the league (bradley Beal comes to mind)
I believe in him.

Yep. Something always rubbed me the wrong way about haywood. I was kind of considered a Haywood hater his whole career up until last season.

I finally start to believe in the **** and think he will stay and support the jazz offering him max money......then his bitch *** leaves lol.

I mentioned how Haywad never smiled in my thread about him leaving.
