How bad is Kanter?

As I recall before Jazz drafted the bum I told yall to stay away from him and was blasted by the likes of PKM who him and his"inside Sources" (the internet) called Kanter a cant miss prospect. I was right on him as a bust, I was right as Doufus, and ill be proven right about Lyles in a couple years. Some of you need to show the respect to me for my bball knowledge. I have proven tme after time to know more about hoops then yall. Have a good night

So, you called two people correctly in the past decade? What a miracle!

Should have drafted Jonas or Knight like I said.

I was certain it was going to be Knight. I was fine with that. Not sure how well he would have worked here (or would be working here if he was still here).

Here is the way I look at it. If Kanter was even just a subpar defender, rather than a historically bad defender, I doubt the Jazz would have rolled the dice on Gobert, who would now be playing for San Antonio. For that alone, I am willing to give a slow golf clap to Enes Kanter. It isn't enough that the Jazz got Gobert, it is that we made sure that San Antonio didn't.

I'm aware of your point and it's a valid one.

But The Jazz have already eaten one guaranteed contract (albeit minimal) and will probably end up eating another in order to get these two stiffs off the 15 man roster.

DL should have done better.

Better than sabotaging what is the most dangerous young team in the western conference?

DL completely **** on their championship hopes. They're playing ****ing Andre Roberson significant minutes. Who? Exactly. Aside from Minny and GS, no team poses a bigger risk for us in the long-term. Dennis out here playing chess with y'all.

Yeah, letting Millsap and Jefferson walk so we could tank for a real star was totally a "strive for mediocrity" move. No risk involved with that move either.
After the Jazz were swept by the Spurs, roughly everyone recognized that Al Jefferson and, to a lesser extent, Paul Millsap weren't going to lead the team much further. They were also entering the last season on their deals. If the plan was to tank for a star, what was DL doing in his first season as GM? What was the point in keeping Al and Paul that season? Why not start the rebuild/tank a year earlier?

Just as he did with Kanter, DL sat on his hands until he had to make a decision, and as a result failed to maximize his assets (Al and Paul). Had he traded them, the Jazz would likely have "earned" a better draft pick AND still could have made the trade with Golden State. This is my point. Has DL done anything proactively in his 3+ years with the Jazz? Has he made any trades FOR rotation players? Has he signed any quality free agents? What does he do all season?

Except you don't get him with a better attitude at a lower contract. You get Enes Kanter. If you think his defense is bad now, wait until he gets in his first 7 game series. . .
Then why didn't the team that got to watch him play for 3 full seasons recognize his deficiencies and unload him sooner? Or do you think it's unlikely the Jazz would've gotten more in return had they not waited until the last minute?

I don't need to do ****. **** off.

Not really. Koufos was a late first round pick, who has turned himself into a legitimate rotation player. Pretty decent for a player picked 23rd overall.

So Dennis's master plan was to wait until he had no other options, then deal Kanter to the Thunder for a bag of chips?

I am glad he was traded, I have never liked Kanter. I did not want him and never thought he was good enough to start and wanted him traded long before it happened. I am glad he is not on the team.

With that said we got a bad trade in terms of his value on the open market. At least 2 teams were willing to pay max for him that off season. That means teams would have traded more than a late 1st round pick and filler contracts.

Just because you are okay with what we got "addition by subtraction" does not mean we could not have gotten more or that it was a good trade.

Should have traded him earlier and we could have gotten more for him. Jazz thought the players we got might be better but they are not.

And yet, presumably, no team offered more because Lindsey likely would've taken it.

I totally agree with GVC - DL dropped the ball big time dealing with Kanter's case.
What I don't understand is why people call Kanter's contract "albatros". With salary cap blowing up in two years his contract will be very reasonable for a young big man capable of 20-10 on any given night even with no defense.Guys like that still at premium in the NBA.

Because Corbin sucked. It's not unreasonable for Quin to walk in, see Kanter's offensive ability, and think, with good coaching, if we can turn him into an adequate defender, we have a heck of a player. That takes some time to try and to evaluate. After a half season, it became apparent, Kanter just doesn't get it. So they traded him.

I think that's reasonable.

It's ridiculous how many problems' root cause go down to having Corbin as head coach. That's the biggest blunder of KOC/DL I can think of.

This. Teams are very lucky to get a rotation player at #23. I would love to have had any one of the three guys drafted right after him but that's with hindsight.

Agreed. I don't know if there were any deals out there for Jefferson, but pretty sure he could have moved Millsap which would have accelerated Favor's development.

He was hand chosen by Sloan-God. Jazz at that time believed anything ole Jer was saying.

Man I'd love to have a GM that could look into the future as well. DL needs to work on this pronto.

DL has done nothing. Let's forget about the Favors extension, Gobert trade, Burke trade (really proactive), GS trade, Quin Snyder acquistion, Burks extension, Hayward contract, Hood pick and maintaining flexibility to keep everybody.

And in isolation, that's fine (I said as much in my first post in this thread). DL has made a habit of waiting things out, and only making decisions when his hand is forced, however. How many more years will it take him to build a team as good as the one he inherited (which wasn't particularly good)? How many more young/prime players will he let walk for (essentially) nothing? Now that this team is good enough to challenge for a playoff spot, and won't be drafting at the top of the draft, shouldn't DL be taking advantage of every opportunity to add talent? How's that going?
