What's new

How did Exum look last night?

I don't dislike him ( His lack of mid range game and ugly jumper has nothing to do with how he moves BTW). I just think he was way overrated before draft and came with too many unreasonable expectations. Had he been drafted at 20-30 range nobody here would complain about him at all. Now he has higher measuring stick as 5th pick and he is not living up to those expectations so far.

Just pretend we took Rudy 5th in his draft and Exum 27th.

I think you might want to grab a dictionary.
You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

I want Exum to be successful and live up to all his potential. I hope he pans out in every way that the Jazz had envisioned him to. Confidence is a crazy thing, he lacks it but when he gets his swag on, this kid will be dope.

lol. I'm not playing this stupid game.
I would think linguistics on a message board might be important.

I'll help: Nobody hates Dante. There is a contingent of skeptics because the data on him simply isn't good.

There is reason for hope, but don't confuse hope with empirical evidence, and don't conflate skepticism with "festering hatred."

Could have been worse. Jazz could have drafted Stauskas or Elfrid Payton.
Or wasted our second pick on Rodney Hood. Oh wait...

JK, Hood was a solid pick at #23.

I don't see it. He looks really awkward to me, and defenses don't pay him much attention. You can't build a career on just a decent first step, specially when you can barely handle the ball.

It's been 4 years, and we still **** our pants when he has a game where he doesn't suck.

Oh well, why rain on anyone's parade. You guys have your fun.
Really???

I just watched the highlights and was super impressed, this is also just after a serious shoulder injury.

Who said you can’t make a career with a quick first step?

Drive and dish or take it to the rim with speed seems pretty simple to me.

Leandro Barbosa says hi

Could have been worse. Jazz could have drafted... Elfrid Payton.

How? Payton's career PER is over 15. Exum is currently at 7. Payton hasn't lost most of two seasons to injury. Payton's career win-shares are over 11, while Exum is still at just 1.

Hopefully Exum can salvage his career. So far his has been barely this side of a worst-case-scenario for such a high pick.

I do think there is a ton of over the top criticism of him. Love can turn to hate and I think that him being a top 5 pick and not progressing like some would hope has made one strong emotion turn into another. There's also a lot of pride on the line from what I can tell. Some people really put a lot of self-worth into their basketball evaluation skills.

There are definitely stats in Payton's favor and he has stayed injury free. Regarding PER-- Any stat tool that can't accurately track both sides of the floor is meaningless, and shouldn't be used to compare players.

I'd still wager on Exum's upside over Payton. If Payton would cut his hair, he might be a lot better. He's like the anti-Sampson.

.

But all other stats ( advanced included) except FT% and 3PT % ( which is virtually a tie) are favoring Payton so much more. Offensive rating, defensive rating, win shares, you name it. I agree that Exum may have higher ceiling and a chance to be better but as of today it is a no contest.

Yep, not arguing that Payton's stats overall haven't been better, even mentioned that in my post. I laugh at the morans that use PER to try and prove a point.
