And for the record Booker shot 34.5% from 3 last year, this year is not good. Lyles is shooting 40% this year from 3.

Lyles as shown dramatic improvement lately. I'm happy with him but it's still way early to determine if he was a good pick or a bust.

While I agree with the closing sentence and want to emphasize that, with the CBA requiring teams to pay 90% of the cap one way or another, the Jazz having had tons of cap space for the last three offseasons, contracts being much shorter than they were in the previous CBA, and a cap spike that hasn't been seen for a couple of decades, you could just as easily argue that money (cap) not spent is far more wasteful and irresponsible. At this particular juncture in time, anyway.

I don't have enough info to know whether the FO passed up deals or not. I thought it was interesting reading Locke the other night he posted this:
The Miller family allowed the Jazz to cut Grant Jarrett and his million dollar contract and guaranteed contract to let the franchise keep Jeff Withey. The Miller family took ownership of the Idaho Stampede and are willing to lose over a million dollars a year (not official but rumor mill of what it costs) so the Jazz can develop players and that is what Tibor Pleiss did tonight.

It's pretty easy to substantiate the Grant Jarrett Claim, the D-league one I could substantiate that the purchase price is supposed to be low 7 figure, but I couldn't find anything about what the cash flow situation is.

$2 mill is not a huge amount for the Jazz relatively, but it's enough to say they are not trying to do the bare minimum. I would have to believe that there is a plan for the cap space. It wasn't that long ago the Jazz were willing to pay the luxury tax.

I would not want them to take on anything long term at this point unless it was a player better than Burks, Burke, Hood, Gobert, Hayward or Favors.

You could easily argue they went out of their way to pass on one last year (Reggie Jackson).

My point is not that the Millers are misers, like I said, they have to spend 90% of the cap one way or another. I just am struggling to understand what the hell last offseason was about, ESPECIALLY if everyone has more-or-less punted on the idea of signing free agents. And, I don't know, maybe it would've been nice just to get information that would leave the impression that the Jazz were being proactive about acquiring actual NBA players.

I hope the organization learned something this year. I don't want to hear the belly-aching about injuries, because they happen, so why not accumulate talent?

Anyway, the point is, I don't think the Jazz being the quietest team in the NBA last offseason has to do with not wanting to spend money. I hope it isn't, anyway.
 
I can see your point and I can see good reasons to pass that have been gone over. It was a gamble they likely chose not to take. OKC fans feel about him like we feel about Kanter.

Even more of a reason why I wish they'd done Kanter for Jackson strait up. Have him develop into a solid starter in Utah would have made the rivalry even more fun.

Damn near added GOLDEN STATE, OKC, Cavs and Heat to that list. Some of us, like myself, might be overly high on the Jazz but you are are severly low on them. I don't know how you can be so down on the Jazz.

I agree with you in that DL needs to improve this team this offseason.

You have to compete consistently before you can win consistently. The Jazz compete consistently, and are rarely blown out. It is a culture thing that pays dividends, like stingy defense.

18+ppg, 47% from 3 91%, from the line, 4rpg and 2.5apg since this thread was created.

And as good as he's been from 3, he gets off more quality shots off the dribble than any player on the team - in fact I'd go as far to say he does this at an elite level.

I don't even think Hood realizes yet how big a weapon this can be for him.
 
If Hood and Hayward can both maintain this that will be a huge boost to this team. Hayward has proven he can. Can Hood?
