How do we fix this team?

The "smart" shots aren't so smart when they don't go in. Rubio shooting a ton of 3's isnt a winning recipe.

Tonight wasnt that bad, i missed the last game but read about it so when this one started out 12-2 i was prepared to get blown out, especially on the road against an undefeated home team

The defense needs to be consistent. Even when shots aren't falling defense can keep us in games.
Mitchell has to be more efficient on offense.
We need to add a lot more shooting.

Mitchell can be a lot more efficient when he has lanes and release valves on those drives. Morale often has an effect on making players more engaged on defense as well.

I’m telling y’all. This team is a couple of gutsy moves away from being a more consistent, more competitive team. We all know what that means. The spacing is killing everything on both sides of the court and eventually the general spirit of the team.

Terry Rozier. He is a player with an edge, good D, and can catch fire. You replace Rubio with Rozier, and teams actually might fear our starter offense.

Man sometimes you have just one note. He shares Ricky’s flaws... other than spot up shooting.

My biggest worry is that we play just well enough to justify completely staying the course. DL is painfully patient... or he’s a ***** when it comes to making moves. I believe it is the former... I hope so.

He only makes moves when he has to, so... uhhh... I guess let’s keep losing. Because I do not believe in this roster as currently constructed.

They just need an efficient player who can handle semi-high usage (like 22-25 range).

Having one more role player who could shoot would be nice too.

A PG something like Mike Conley would be ridiculous in this system.

Someone who can take what the defense gives them.

Failing that, Oscar Schmidt. Someone who can f&@“” shoot.

@handlogten's hero's

I bang the drum for Rozier for 4 reasons:
- he is realistically attainable via either trade or 2019 free agency
- he is a better defender than Rubio
- he is a better scorer than anybody on our roster not named DM
- he can flat out shoot

When I say we need guts, this is what I mean. Cut bait with Rubio and infuse our team with a little attitude. A little edge. Rozier brings that. And he isn't some pipe dream. He might be available soon.

I just looked up his stats. They are pretty bad as far as shooting/scoring. Not very efficient. His 3 point% is pretty good but his field goal percentage is very bad and he doesnt get to the line at all. Per 36 he only averages 13 points too. I dont he is the scorer you think he is. As for flat out shoot? If we are talking three point shooting he is a little better than average. (His rookie year he was 27% from the field and 22% from 3 fwiw)

Might just take time.

Currently we are average. Disappointing because I thought we had a chance to be a top 2 team, based on last year and our roster.

For whatever reason we aren't the same team we saw in the second half last year.

Trouble with Ricky is that he is and has been for most of his career, a lot below average as a shooter.

Not sure if you realize it but my post you quoted was about terry rozier.

-Get shooters and scorers.

That's it.

Our memories are selective, this roster has been deeply flawed since Hayward and Hill walked (and they weren't perfect, but they were plus players on both sides of the ball, were unselfish, and hit their shots). It's great Ricky and Donovan played out of their minds last year, but without that, the 19-28 team is closer to the reality of the situation.

Does that fix the defense though? Our offense has had its struggles but when you look at team rankings it isn't terrible. It's the defense that seems to be letting us down. Which I would have never ever expected with this group.

If you ignore numbers and facts it’s hard to take you seriously... he’s a good defender and good catch and shoot guy but everything else is inefficient and he has some of the same struggles as Ricky. He’s not a flat out shooter... he’s solid.

He’s attainable if you want to pay 150% in a trade cuz that’s how Danny rolls. Will cost you a first and I ain’t with that. Sign him in FA if he’s a bargain (say 10M a year)... but Danny will match that.

I'd be hesitant to tie my hopes to a Boston player. They often look worse after leaving.

Players in winning situations always have a premium tied to them in trade and free agency and it is often not justified.

I think it helps. We have the roster, but I think the struggles this season have been demoralizing and the focus and effort suffer because of it.

This team doesn't need to be the best defensive team of all time (especially since that relies on officiating), but it does need to put the ball in the basket.
