I think you give it 5 games before a new starting lineup. I’m not opposed to a quick AB for Rubio sub to get a look at it.
After 5 games you have to change something up... at that point you’ve given it an adequate shot at working. If the strength of the team is the team then guys that have performed and been steady need to be rewarded and others need to take their turn sacrificing.
Jazz lead the NBA in drives. We are getting to the rim a lot. But are shooting some of the worst percentages in the NBA on Drives at 43%. That number is going to go up and will make a huge difference. To make it go up we need to hit our open shots. That will start happening more and more as the season goes on just like it did last year.
Just like last year to start the year we are getting some of the most open looks from 3 in the NBA and shooting some of the worst percentage on that. Our team is getting the looks and shots it wants, we will start hitting them more and more and things will open up and get momentum.
So if we had more outside shooting going in it would open up our inside looks... it’s seems that this is kind of a re-occurring thing. So maybe... instead of relying on guys who have traditionally been bad shooters... maybe we play guys who are better shooters or acquire players who are better shooters.
I just read Andy Baileys article... it’s time to move Jae to the starting lineup. He hasn’t shot well but he seems to be rushing his shot a little... playing with starters might give him and the starting lineup a boost.
We paid Favs more than fairly this offseason he is valued... hopefully this doesn’t unmotivate him. If so we move him in January.
Wait until the team gets going again because they will. Snyders teams start slow. The offense is complex. The players are thinking too much and not just playing yet. He runs them harder in practice than most teams and they dont have their legs under them early. Shots are off because of that. Crowder, Allen, Mitchell, Rubio, and Exum will all improve their shooting across the season from where they are.
I think it helps. We have the roster, but I think the struggles this season have been demoralizing and the focus and effort suffer because of it.
This team doesn't need to be the best defensive team of all time (especially since that relies on officiating), but it does need to put the ball in the basket.
Yeah, the defense is concerning but I think they are still adjusting to the rules and pace. Teams are also shooting a lot and really well against us from the mid range (where we want them to shoot from), we are also turning the ball over a lot that gives easy baskets, and teams are getting long rebounds off bad misses for easier fast breaks. Some of it is our offense that makes the defense worse. They've never started slow defensively though. It's usually the offense that starts slow. The offense picking up this year won't save us if we still can't stop anyone.
Cutting through some of the bull ****, this isn't a roster fix. If it's not morale, the only modifiable factor is coaching, plain and simple. I resist that argument but it's the only one. The roster is here, and the culture is supposed to be as well. This may be true. I don't know. I find it hard to believe that the best defensive team in the NBA last year is now ranked in the bottom half of the league just because they feel demoralized. We went through big time struggles last year and this team still fought hard on D.
