I'm trying to keep my hopes tempered. Memo could be extremely effective as a driver. I'm not saying Kanter will be Nowitski, but how do you guard a guy that:
-can abuse just about anyone not named Nikolai Pekovic in the post just with strength
-can hit threes
-can be a wall as a pick-setter, can pick and pop, can catch on the move and has soft touch around the rim
-can drive to the hoop from the perimeter

Not a lot of guys can just put a cork in the post and guard well in space. If they try to stop the post in single-coverage with a true giant, then drag that dude out of the paint with pick-setting, shooting, and driving. How do you stop that without putting a lien on your team defense? Let's say a team can bottle up this fantasy version of Kanter, how much gameplanning and bodies will they have to spend? A player like that can wreak havoc on a defense just for existing.

But again, I know I'm getting ahead of myself. But I can see some of this potential in Kanter and I feel like a bleary-eyed fool for feeling and expressing it.

I don't know how his skillset changed from when I was watching him at UK... but he can do those things (all of them) but needed major work on his dribble back then. He could rebound like a beast and could hit mid-range to beyond 3.. pretty effortlessly. But it was awkward watching him drive from the perimeter. So, I'd be working on that and getting him burn.

Memo had the ability to stop and shoot off one foot like Nowitzki, and could dribble well enough keeping his head up. He also knew how to use his slow but long steps to keep guys riding his hip, so he could get that one footed fader off very effectively closer to the hoop. He also played like a true 7 footer, even though he wasn't one. Smaller guys couldn't block his jumpers because of that.

Don't temper, just believe.
 
20/12/1.5 would be my guess.

He shot over 40% on jumpers last year and 80% from the line, both on pretty big sample sizes. That is incredibly rare for a 20 year old big man. The only concern of mine is his handling of double teams, it was slightly better last year, but 1 assist per 36 minutes is near the league low.
 
I see nothing but good things for Kanter. He's an amazing player. Get out of his way and let's see what he's got!

My brother and I always used to say "fear the slow" I think the slowness of a Memo drive was actually the greatest strength of a Memo drive. Always threw off the defenders timing.

Villaneuva also started plenty and played major minutes his rookie year.

Maybe your dreamboat coach should play him more before you make comparisons like that.
 
Probably an All Star. He's got the all around game, work ethic, and marketability to succeed.

I think we've only scratched the surface on his ability which is fun to think about.
 
perennial All Star, elite rebounder, average scorer.
one of the best 5 c's in the league (given the poor quality of centers, nowadays, no big feat for Kanter I'd say.)
