What's new

How much has Al helped Favors and Kanter improve over the course of their early careers?

Initially, I was one who thought that Jefferson should have been traded a season ago to make room for our youth. However, is there a chance that Favors and Kanter have been taught offensive repertoires that they otherwise would have never learned, if it wasn't for practising with and against Jefferson for 2-3 seasons?

Some food for thought.

I feel like both have learned from Al, but Kanter actually used Al's skills towards his strengths, while Favors not so much. Kanter has taken Al's footwork, to work closer to the basket. Favors tries a variation of the Al push shot a lot more than he should. He just doesn't have the touch that Al does and he's constantly missing close to the basket. Favors should use his athleticism to get to the hoop to finish more.

Favors has been working on his face-up jumper a lot more lately as well. And he's been connecting at an improved rate. He himself said that Al hs been working with him on it, from what I recall.

more than Paul...

Kanter always had a good footwork and touch and some moves.

It's some god given talent and hard work.

Al for sure helped but it's not like Kanter is a product of Al Jefferson.

If Favors has improved offensively, I haven't seen it.

Improvement is there. He was better in the game earlier on. Whenever he gets saddled with foul trouble, it just drains him from the rest of his game.

Also, interestingly enough, remember when you said that Favors racks up fouls because he knows that he'll only be getting 20mpg??

Definitely wasn't the case tonight, as I correctly predicted.

Jefferson has been really good for Kanter, if for no other reason then making him comfortable--which is a big deal for a foreign kid like Kanter, who never really played in college.

No one is saying this.

But some say Kanter got this up and under move from Jefferson and also his footwork and many other moves.

He had a big packet of different skills even before he got drafted. He just was raw and was lacking game experience.

I think Jefferson helped Kanter a lot but some are exaggerating Jefferson's impact.

Favors has shown more advanced moves this year. He still just doesn't have a great feel for what move to do in certain situations. He seems to travel a lot because he goes to the wrong move and his defender predicts it easily.

actually corbin and jefefrson messed with kanter.
watch the gam,e when kanter is playing if he makes a mistake.
he looks over to the bench waiting for al to come in.
it is hurting his in game confidence.

tonight he knew he did not have to look over his shoulder

My point is that he hasn't learned to manage his fouling (at a base level) because he hasn't had to. I'm not saying he's burning them up willfully over the course of the game and I doubt you're dumb enough to believe that that was my point.

And yeah, he needs to improve there. I never said he didn't. I have said that he will when he has to make that improvement but the necessity hasn't really been there.

He learned from Mirsad Jahovic, one of my favorite players.

Kanter needs to get Hakeem over the summer to teach him. Kanter has the natural talent to pull off some of hakeems moves.

With Kanter's foot work, agility, soft touch and strength, there is no better individual coach for Kanter to improve than 'The Dream' and no better student for 'The Dream' than Kanter.

Btw, both are Muslims. Maybe a workout would cost less for Kanter? :)

I say Kanter and Favors spend two weeks working with Malone, then two weeks working with Hakeem. We could have a top-3 front court in the blink of an eye :)

Can everyone please calm down about Favors? Last game he looked great and managed to play 38 minutes with a great impact on the game.

He, like everyone on the team, needs to work on his consistency.
