What's new

How much should we be talking about Donovan?

I'm over Exum/Rubio debates, lets talk Mitchell some more.

When do we start to get worried about Mitchell for the playoffs if he's still struggling? Post ASB?

Shhhhhh........don't start any controversies. Jazz fans like to live in their little utopia of rainbows and butterflies. Land of the golden plates, ya know.

Mitchell has had more makes than misses only one time in his last 10 games and only 8 times all season

Hes made more than missed less than a quarter of games this year. Last year he did it 18 of 79 games (22% of the time).

Maybe this is who he is.

Here’s the thing. I wouldn’t expect anything amazing this season. I think he’s going to be up and down and struggle this season. Which is fine. Ina few years he will be incredible. Patience is the only answer. Some expected too much too fast. This may not end up being the season we all thought it was. It wouldn’t be the worst thing to get a decent draft pick at some point soon before he is at his peak.

Let’s see if we make the playoffs first lol. Ingles, Rubio, and Mitchell have not been very good this season consistently. If that doesn’t change somewhat we likely are too up and down to make the playoffs.

It’s very early in his career. To make any decision on who he is right now is just not going to be accurate. He’s been called Wade and Monte Ellis. You can’t make a judgement of who he actually will be this early on. By years 4-5 we will know more about the player he is.

4~5 years? You are very patient and long suffering then.
Please say that to Dante exum haters who said Dante is a bust after only playing 2 full seasons of nba.

Playoffs? We aren't even going to make the playoffs at this rate

Mitchell has been sucking lately. Been making a lot of stupid plays and always seems to be forcing the issue. I think the amount of times he touches the ball per game should be reduced for now. Have him be a spot up shooter every now and then, have him playing more team basketball, and hold him responsible for ugly plays.

He's to small. And obviously to inefficient. He's never going to get taller unfortunately that's a massive issue he has.

He can get better and he’s extremely athletic and has very long arms which makes up for a lot of height issues. Most guys don’t hit a peak until year 6 or 7. He’s already good, by then he should be great.

Yes that would be very reasonable and not to expect his absolute peak until year 6-8 IMO. Some of you are crazy with such quick expectations. It’s beyond ridiculous.

Tbh he's not very good atm. He's more inefficient then anything. He's not really that fast to be honest. And he needs space to show off his athleticism. When he doesn't have space he doesn't look athletic. He needs to jump off 2 feet.

I'd really like to see Mitchell take less ballhandling responsibilities, because right now not many great things are coming from him having the ball in his hands so often. He's taking too many ill-advised shots, going 1-on-3 for a layup (and missing) way too often and not passing the ball nearly as much or as well as he should at this point. He's back to his Louisville ways, forcing the issue most of the time and not just when the team really needs it, and that's the main thing he needs to correct. He's also been more distracted on defense and we haven't seen much improvement in that area so far, but that's less of a concern for now since there are more pressing needs offensively and we know he's a hard worker. He needs to go back to the basics, pick his spots and share the pressure with the rest of his teammates until he gets his rythm.

I guess I got faith in the guys making another 2nd half run again with the Jazz playing 25 of their last 41 games at home and the defense showing up in December. After this road trip they have three sets of 4 game homestands with 1 or 2 road games in between.

I think its amusing we all want him to be an alpha then complain when he attacks (myself included). I agree he needs more time to adjust his game and I would really like to see him attack with the intent of drawing the defense and kicking to the open man on occasion. Problem is, the open man misses the majority of the time. If they can put some reliable shooters around him it will help his game immensely. I doubt he will ever quit pressing, that is what winners do, but I think he will adjust his game as he progresses in the league. He has a burning desire to win on a average or slightly below average team. I think that is the main thing that is affecting him right now.

Look at their remaining schedule. There are home games but that hasn’t been their saving grace this year and there are still a lot of games against decent teams they haven’t proven they can consistently beat.

I mean I see what you’re saying, but he isn’t making it very often himself right now. He’s just making a lot of bad decisions right now. The cop out is to blame his teammates, I don’t think his current struggles are on his teammates, he makes some poor decisions.

The announcers on nbatv last night hit it on the head. He is taking ill advised, very difficult shots.
