Huge Fire!!!

Out on the Bacchus highway, around 6:30 pm, couldn't see Herriman, couldn't see downtown. Lotsa smoke.

Is the DayBreak development in Herriman? I should probably make a couple of phone calls if it is.

No Daybreak is a few miles South of Herriman. The worst that Daybreak will be getting is lots of smoke. The wind has been carrying the smoke to the North all evening. I live in Riverton, around 12800 S. I have a very good viewpoint of this fire. I have been watching it most of the evening. This mountain has been on fire several times in the 10 years since my parents moved to Riverton. This is definitely the worst of all the fires I have personally seen. The fire has reached the base of the mountain. It is confirmed that at least two homes in Herriman have burned down, and possibly more. My sister lives in Herriman with her husband and daughter. I went over there with some family around 8:30 PM. The smoke was so thick in Herriman. We could no longer see the flames from there as we could from Riverton. The smoke was burning our eyes, and was causing me to cough. The roads into and out of Herriman were gridlocked. Cell phones were not placing or receiving calls. It's all pretty crazy. At this moment I can still see the flames from my house. This fire is burning out of control, and the wind just keeps blowing it further down the mountain side and closer to the homes. This was all started by machine gun training at Camp Williams being done by the Utah National Guard.

Not to be a total dick, but Daybreak is a few miles NORTH of Herrriman. I'm sure that's what you meant, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.
It seems like this happens every couple of years. That whole area just turns into nothing more than dried brush every summer. Dried brush + firearms by the National Guard = fire hazard.

Right, thanks for correcting that.

After the fire department and police told everyone to stay out of Herriman? Nice.
No, this was before that. My sister's house ended up not being part of the evacuation zone, but she was right on the edge of it.

Daybreak is north of Herriman, not south.

EDIT: I just read the thread, looks like that's out of the way. I was up in Draper yesterday visiting my parents and then I went to Herriman to visit my brother and his family who lives there. I'm thinking about maybe buying a house in Daybreak next year. I like the Herriman/South Jordan area a lot.

I just repped Katie, and as soon as I can rep again will probably rep again in this thread.
Repping really old posts is fun.

Still vividly remember this fire. My brother in law and his wife were a few hundred feet away from losing their home. We sat on the roof watching it until we couldn't breathe then headed inside. They finally got it under control. Was pretty intense.
