I just watched some old games and I notice Hayward was good when he lurked in the shadows behind Sap and Jefferson. I also notice one big thing....Watch some games that came down to the wire. You will notice Hayward bricking and air balling the final shot and guess who bailed him out at least 4 times? Millsap.

The guy is GOOD, but he's just NEVER EVER a number 1 option on a team. He had his chance to prove himself and as the number 1 option, but so far I just don't see it at all.

Do you really think the guy is still learning? I think you can no conclude the type of player Hayward will be. To me he's still a guy who should be coming off the bench to spark the team. That's where he did really good last year and this year it has become even more obvious where he stands.

I'm not writing this to BASH Hayward because I really do want this guy to become a basketball god. I always cheer for him but it's time to come back to earth and realize what we're dealing with here. Maybe he's just being used terribly wrong maybe there are some external factors that are causing these terrible games from him. I mean it could be Corbin's offense that just not working with Hayward possibly because he would do better in a different system.

I also don't want another AK47 situation with the possibility of Hayward getting that Max money. Hayward is a solid player, but max contract worthy? in my eyes, NO.

I've also been saying this all year. There's a lot of people on this board that say he is good enough and has been progressing, which isn't true. The past 3 games have been some of his worst performances in his career... But of course, people on this board will say that it's just a few games. Favors shouldn't have gotten that extension either. This team is a bucket of $hit. And I love the Jazz. I've been a fan since 93!

Hayward seems to have a loyal "cult" like following by many Jazz fans. The excuses for his inconsistency/poor performances, and belief that he will become an all-star/superstar won't go away. Just as much as the next Jazz fan, I'd like to see Hayward blossom into another Paul George type player, but I've come to the harsh realization that Hayward is simply an extremely inconsistent above-average role player in this league, nothing more, nothing less. I really expected/wanted more out of this kid, but not everyone can be a star in the league. I honestly think the $40M/4 year offer by the Jazz will no longer be on the table at the end of the season and the Jazz will let him walk if the offers by other teams exceed that.

Lets be honest, it's because a large percentage of this population loves them some original Nephites.

Hayward is a 3rd option on a good team. That is his best role if he's good enough because he's not better than that and if he's given less responsibility, he will disappear.

We already know what Hayward does very well. Failing at this new on-ball role does not diminish his capabilities in his old off-ball role. Why not enjoy finding out if he can do the things he hasn't been able to do in the past? It's an experiment.

Numb - you crack me up. We agree on 99% of everything, but because I said I'd rather have CJ at 4 per than Hayward at 12+ you think we are total opposites. Ha ha.

I agree Hayward isn't a #1 guy, maybe not even #2, but it is still too early to judge. I love the guy, and am witholding judgement because I can't imagine how hard the transition is on THIS team (where no one else can keep the defense honest, or even hit a shot), and he's been injured the last 6 or so games (shins, and then a right knee contusion) has to be. If you don't have your legs, you don't have your shot.

I think he could be a #2 guy on a contender... but he still has to prove it. Even if he's a #3 guy, you still try to keep him. True contenders have 3 guys, and a flock of 3 & D's.

OKC has Westbrook and Durant, but they're not going to do it with just them. I believe in the trinity model (worked for Spurs, Miami, Boston, we had it with Malone, Stockton, Hornacek, etc.)

What are the best go-to # 2's and 3's on various NBA teams making this year?

One example would be Nick Batum who is a 3rd option on the best team in the west right now. He is at $11 Million a year.

Most 2nd options make in the $11-14 Mil a year range

There is no structure range for any options. Players get paid what team are willing and able to pay. Millsap was our 2nd option and 1st option sometimes and he certainly didn't get paid that much. I think Millsap is a more consistent player. Yes they play different positions but I think Millsap is a better player.

I think a contract starting at $7 million a year is pretty spot on for Hayward. If he were more reliable then I think he would be around $9 million. I am sure he will get overpaid but I hope it isn't by the Jazz.

Batum is overpaid. Portland simply matched the T-Wolves offer sheet. They did not offer him that level of money and were pissed at the T-Wolves for doing so.

He's Kirilenko offensively. Defense he is above average. He should be paid that way. I think 8-9 is reasonable.

Lol people come on... 8-9 million? Teams wipe their *** with ten million, he will get a 40 + million deal. And we probably will match it. And for those bitching about favors deal, we got him for A steal.

I don't think anyone is bitching about the Favors deal. Or at least I'm not. As for Gordon, I really can't justify giving him 10 million or more with his inconsistent play. JMO.
