If Hayward Leaves?

Plus the Jazz have 4 picks this year. They could give 4 rookies heavy rotation minutes.

I just hate the idea of wasting Gobert's prime. Dude deserves better.

The more I think about it though, it's the best option. The Admiral did it so I think Gobert can too.

I think if Hayward leaves Dennis Lindsey's number one target is Danilo Gallinari. He's a 28 year old, 6'10" SF, who averaged 18 ppg last season while shooting 39% from 3P, and 90% FT. He would really stretch the floor out for Gobert. He's not as good defensively as Hayward, but he's got a quicker release on his shot, and does well on catch and shoot plays. His FG% on catch and shoot is the same as Gordo's 40.6% vs 40.5% for Gallinari, but Hayward shoots 38% on 3P attempts in catch and shoot situations whereas Gallo hits 41%. He's probably also a better passer than Hayward. You add him and Milos Teodosic to the same roster and our passing will be right up there at Spurs/Warriors level.

My ideal off-season this summer would involve keeping Hayward or losing him.

0. You decline the option on Boris Diaw - taking him off the cap.
1. You trade Derrick Favors + Alec Burks + 2018 first round pick to Phoenix for Eric Bledsoe + Tyson Chandler.
2. You sign Gordon Hayward for 34 mil per season.
3. You sign Danilo Gallinari for 27 mil per season.
4. You sign Joe Ingles for 9 mil season.
5. You sign Milos Teodosic for 8 mil per season.

C- Rudy Gobert, Tyson Chandler, (draft pick)
PF - Danilo Galinari, Trey Lyles, Joel Bolomboy
SF - Gordon Hayward, Joe Johnson,
SG - Rodney Hood, Joe Ingles, (draft pick)
PG - Eric Bledsoe, Milos Teodosic, Dante Exum

This gives us a ton of flexibility, improves our rim protection, outside shooting, passing and experience and toughness.

There is nothing in franchise history with this FO or any other suggesting The Jazz will tank the season.

If Hayward leaves they'll bring in enough talent to be marginally competitive for the next 3 years....38-42 wins.

Ugh.

You are probably right, but I wish you were wrong. Jazz are missing a Golden Tankortunity.

I don't think Hayward will leave, but if he does, and the Jazz decide to rebuild, then I'm taking a break for a few years. Not up to watching a losing team for another half decade.

Agree that Gallo would be a target if Hayward leaves... if we didn't get him I just think you go full process and that means trading Gobert... who is my favorite Jazz player since Stockton... Just sucks.

No way do the Jazz even attempt to tank if Hayward leaves. It would be more than foolish to do so while you have Rudy as the anchor and plenty of cap space. You do all you can to add a nice piece and see if Hood and Favs can stay healthy and become what we all thought they could be until this season. You might even get a nice surprise with Burks. Then you prepare for making a splash in 2019.

I'm on board I just don't know if the Suns are interested in two guys that have been injury prone.

You serious?

Ya. We just made it back to the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade (not counting the meaningless appearance 5 years back). Not gonna sit through another rebuild following every prospect for years and years. If Hayward leaves and the Jazz decide to rebuild through the draft, I'll see you in the 20s.

If Hayward leaves it means he and his wife don't want to live in SLC anymore, all the rest are just excuses.

He is already part of a team that is trying to build a winning project. The fans love him and Gobert said publicly he will ask him to stay, not to mention the management did everything possible to please him, acquiring is friend Mack and so on...

If that's not enough then he can go without regrets.

He has said he doesn't care where he lives which could be a good or bad thing.

If Hayward leaves, I would have a question for DL:

They took Hill for 1 year and didn't trade any player on roster during the season hoping they miraculously win the championship this year?

I would wait to see if Exum takes a step forward before i'd consider a Gobert trade.

Or Hood could take another step up in his development. Lots of things could happen, but we won't be blowing it up. You have to retool for a year or two at least.

I'd bet most Jazz fans would have laughed last year if someone suggested Joe Johnson might sign with us in FA. I think having a dominant big man in Rudy has the potential to lure in some FAs that Utah might not have a chance at otherwise.

Anyway, I don't think this team without Hayward is anywhere close to the Alsap team that was never going anywhere like Numerica suggested. That's an insult to Rudy Gobert.

Solid post. We'd probably still make the playoffs if Hayward left and we signed someone else to take his place.

Finally someone with a realistic plan.

Me neither. If Hayward goes, the Jazz have to acquire immediately another All-Star or at least a very good player.

Gobert didn't extend his contract to face a rebuilding.

The few remaining "Give Dante the Reigns" crowd is cute. I only give him the reigns to increase his worthless ***' trade value.
