If Shabazz and Schroeder are undrafted at 13

What will be Dallas asking price? Jazz have a lot of cap space and can absorb a lot of cap while probably keeping the 21th pick

If Shabazz is available, I trade Burks for #13 or take on a one year salary dump (like Marion) then take Schroeder #14. If Shabazz is gone, I do nothing and wait for Shroeder to fall to me.

I like this lineup next year:

Burks to Dallas for #13.

Shroeder, Larkin (#21), Tinsley
Hayward, Shabazz, Murphy
DMC, Williams, Neal
Favors, Evans
Kanter, FA big

There is 13 players, solid young players, and if you get a top 10 pick, you can find a SF next year in the draft.

Why would Dallas trade the 13 for burks straight up? There is no way in hell they would make that trade.

Maybe the 2nd rounder for the 13 and Marion? How would that affect Dallas cap space and ability to go after CP3 and Howard? If it allows them to I'd be OK with Marion for 1 year. Then you have the Core 4 and the 13, 14 and 21 picks.

Thoughts? Be gentle as I am in very unfamiliar waters with all this draft/trade/expiring contracts stuff.

The thing is, If they are going for cap space, unless they can dump Marion, it would make no sense to trade for burks and lose the benefit of a rookie salary then save money by actually signing their lottery pick.

Burks was a 14 pick (and a stretch at that). He hasn't proven anything in two years to warrant being traded straight up for anything better than a 14th pick anyways.

Burks Def wasn't a stretch at 14 in that draft.

I never mentioned trading Burks to them...

I'm not saying trade up 1 spot. It's obvious Dallas doesn't want the pick or any picks for the reason because they want to dump cap space

So we can get both and a big at 21

Not exactly true. It looks like they have an offer from the Cavs to take Marion and swap the #13 for #19. The point of getting the #19 back is obvious - it can be traded for a future asset.

Taking Marion and the #13 is such a no-brainer that it's too good to be true. Dallas wants something back.

Burks was picked 12th...

admittedly i wasn't around for that draft, waving the white flag for my mistakes.

i guess i am basing that comment off retrospect, since i wasn't around to see what led his selection.

but just looking at other sg/sf from that draft, there are quite a few i would rather have than burks. personal preference, but i would have preferred to have leonard, shumpert, tobias harris, or chandler parsons.

my biggest question about shabazzz is that if the character issues are so serious that 13 teams pass on a guy who talent-wise belongs in the top-2 picks, why should the jazz take him? especially if we are trying to model our franchise after the spurs, character comes slightly before talent, which is why stephen jackson couldn't pass muster

Maybe faith that putting Shabazz with DMC, Evans, Hayward, Favors, Kanter, Williams, Burks. Sloan, Malone and Corbin will be enough of a strong hand to keep him in line.

What are the character issues?

What are the character issues?

the ones that are supposedly driving him down draft boards. not saying there are or aren't any. simply acknowledging that if there are character issues, another team is way more likely to try and deal with them then the jazz are.
