How does that play into rookie deals? Does the deal shorten by a year? I would think because they never signed a contract we still get the full terms, but i am not sure. Anyone?
I'm sure you want Kanter here as small amount of time as possible, right? So you're hoping a missed year cuts a year off his rookie deal, right Verlin?
the new rookie contract structure has yet to be determined, as that will one of the many things sorted out by the new collective bargaining agreement. it probably won't change too much from the previous one.
He didn't comment on this directly but on the radio yesterday Locke said one of the things the players union needs to realize and may motivate them to get a deal done sooner then later is if the year is lost they will not get it back. He mentioned avg NBA player lasts 5yrs and losing 1yr would take a 20% loss off his total potential earning.Well, we'd be a year closer to getting out from under the contracts of Harris and Jefferson. And Memo would be a FA and completely off the books.
More likely, I think, is that if an entire season is lost, it is just counted as null and no time is credited against contracts. Whatever time is left just starts from Oct 2012 forward.
Good point. And average career length probably has as much (or more) to do with the influx of new players every year as it does with the wear and tear of playing. He didn't comment on this directly but on the radio yesterday Locke said one of the things the players union needs to realize and may motivate them to get a deal done sooner then later is if the year is lost they will not get it back.
