What's new

I'm a little worried about Conley

You haven't watched Conley's defense in the past, even though he's been in the NBA for over 11 years. And your judgement of him has been what you have seen through the pre-season?

Well my friend, you opinion of anyone means nothing. You've never payed attention to someone that has been a starting PG in the Western Conference for over a decade and just noticed he showed up on the Jazz roster, so thought you'd watch him and you're not satisfied based on his pre-season play.
Quit watching basketball right now. Your not a fan, and I don't even know what you are. But your opinion is garbage. You have never watched Conley play in over a decade!!!?? Wow. I wouldn't be bragging about that right about now, and I definitely wouldn't be formulating an opinion.

"but I'm worried that he might not able to stay in front of his man when games start to matter."

News flash! Nobody and I mean nobody can stay in front of there man these days! With palming the ball and traveling rarely if ever being called, staying in front of your man is an impossibility for the most part! The advantage we have is we've got Rudy at center who's the best defensive player in the league to clean up some of those plays when his teammates get beat off the dribble.

And also based on who he was playing with. A real comp can’t even be made until Conley has played with Rudy for a year. So we will have to check back on this.
I suppose I should rephrase it, Rubio was a better on-ball, switching, and post defender. Conley is a better passing lane off ball defender.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses, conley is the overall better player by a mile, but he is going to be exploited on switching to taller/bigger players

Any thoughts on this tiered ranking by fadeawayworld.net? They have Conley on tier 2:

Holiday, Bledsoe, and Conley are all effective two-way guards who often lead their teams on the defensive end. Since they guard the opposing ball handler most often, they set the tone defensively. Bledsoe relies on his athleticism and strength, while Conley and Holiday are just very skilled with great intangibles.

Best of the Best

Rudy Gobert

Rudy Gobert, thanks to his consistency on defense, is the best defender in the league.

Gobert has a unique ability to impact the game without scoring the ball much. Standing 7-feet tall, Gobert becomes even longer thanks to his incredible wingspan. His ability to defend the rim makes him one of the game’s most impactful players in the paint. Anytime a player drives to the basket, Gobert is there waiting to challenge the shot and snatch rebounds off the rim. Gobert has a unique ability to use his verticality and long arms to use, altering shots and swatting away many more. He is the game’s best shot-blocker and also the best shot-alterer thanks to his defensive mindset.

Gobert proves night-in and night-out why he is the game’s best defender, and his consistency on that end of the floor is extraordinary. After winning two DPOY Awards, Gobert sits firmly on top as the game’s best defensive player.

No true Scotsman!

We swapped out pretty important pieces in our lineup. Conley's skills should age well. It's not time to hit the alarm button until 20-30 games in.

I think there is a good chance it will take 20 to 30 games for us to really hit our stride. Wouldn't be surprised for us to be just over .500 at 20 games, maybe even longer.

Well, that game certainly didn't make me less worried about Conley individually. Feel pretty good about the squad though.

He needs to lose the headband, take his number back from exum or something. God he was awful tonight.

Yes it was a bad game. Also funny, some other jazzmen on the short list of players who have shot that much with such a low fg%
